¿Sabías que los jeans no se lavan?
No es una ocurrencia de algún loco suelto, mucho menos una ocurrencia mía. Lo dijo nada menos que Chip Berg, CEO de Levi´s Strauss.
No es el único.

Tampoco es que nunca haya que lavarlo, pero se recomienda realizar este sacrilegio en casos donde sea menester.

El estudiante Josh Le (universidad de Alberta, Canadá) hizo de manera independiente un experimento. Utilizó el mismo jean ajustado durante 15 meses, haciendo un seguimiento de evolución bacteriana. Luego de 15 meses de uso el jean tenía la misma cantidad que a partir de la semana 13.
Pero no te espantes hay alternativas
Aún hay maneras de cuidar y desinfectar la prenda sin comprometer sus sutiles propiedades de adaptarse a tu cuerpo. Vapor, cualquier método de lavado en seco o incluso meterlo en el freezer donde las bajas temperaturas pueden eliminar olores y matar bacterias.
Personalmente busco un punto medio, lo uso algunas veces a la semana y lo voy rotando con otros. Lo lavo normalmente luego de dos o tres meses ante la presencia de manchas y así logro mantener el color de fábrica por un dos años.
Lo lavo al revés, programo un lavado corto, con agua fría y sin suavizante. Centrifugado mínimo, preferentemente sin centrifugado. Lo cuelgo también dado vuelta, cuando el sol está bajo o durante la noche. No lo suspendo doblandolo a la mitad si no que lo dejo extendido con los broches en la soga.
En sus orígenes en los inicios de 1900, eran la prenda por excelencia para trabajadores y mineros. El jean esta presente en la moda de ambos sexos hace generaciones. Pero sus propiedades son las de una tela de alta resistencia e higiénica que toma la forma del cuerpo con el uso.
Hoy en dia los buenos jeans son costosos, aunque lo valen completamente. Más con un cuidado apropiado. Hay muchísimas variedades, la más popular hoy es el corte pegado al cuerpo.

It's not that you never have to wash them, but it is recommended to perform this sacrilege in cases where it is necessary.
Denim has the ability to age gracefully. Wearing it adapts it to our body. Machine washing not only interrupts this process, but also wears out its colour faster.
Student Josh Le (University of Alberta, Canada) independently conducted an experiment. He wore the same tight-fitting jeans for 15 months, monitoring bacterial evolution. After 15 months of use the jean had the same amount as from week 13.
But dont fear there are alternatives
Supposing you don't like the idea, there are still ways to care for and disinfect the garment without compromising its subtle fitting properties. Steam, any dry cleaning method or even putting it in the refrigerator where the low temperatures can eliminate odours and kill bacteria.
Personally I look for a middle ground, I use it a few times a week and rotate it with others. I usually wash it after two or three months in case of stains, so I can maintain the factory colour for two years.
I wash it the other way round, I program a short wash, with cold water and no fabric softener. Minimal spin, preferably no spin. I also hang it upside down, when the sun is low or during the night. I do not suspend it by folding it in half, but leave it spread out with the fastenings on the rope.
Originally, in the early 1900s, they were the garment par excellence for workers and miners. Jeans have been present in the fashion of both sexes for generations. But its properties are those of a highly resistant and hygienic fabric that takes the shape of the body with use.
Nowadays good jeans are expensive, but well worth it. More so with proper care. There are many varieties, the most popular today is the close-fitting cut.
