Hunting for Pokemon by the Beach

Ellis Short Sands Park. York, ME

Living on the East Coast means there are plenty of different beaches around to explore. I have been coming to this specific beach since I was a kid because of the many attractions available. It's located right behind Yorks Wild Kingdom, the closest Zoo around. We tried to go on the Ferris wheel at Yorks Wild Kingdom but sadly it was down for maintenance. You get a beautiful view of the ocean from the top.

The reason I took this trip down to the beach was to catch Pokemon. I just recently got my Fiance back into Pokemon Go and it's been really nice getting out and walking around. What better place to do it then on the water? There was a surprising amount of Pokestops and Gyms to keep us entertained. I had to take over Yorks Wild Kingdom and throw my own Pokemon in there when I saw it was a Gym!

Short Sands is super busy during the summer when people are taking vacations at their beach homes. Luckily, we went on a thursday morning and now that kids are back in school it was a ghost town. We went for a short walk around the block and had to stop at a place my Fiance has been coming to since she was a kid called The Golden Rod. She insisted I had to try the Peanut Butter Salt Water Taffy that they make. The cool thing is, they make it right infront of you. You can see the machines in the shop spinning the Taffy from outside. It really draws in a lot of business. Even on a dead day like today, a crowd was gathered infront of the big glass windows that display it. I couldn't resist getting myself a large homemade peanut butter cup and I have no regrets. That place was amazing. Just typing about it is making me want to go back. I only grabbed one picture from in the shop because it was packed in there. There is a HUGE selection though, this picture does it no justice.

In the actual park, the is a nice paved walking path around the beach with plenty of things to do. There's basketball courts, a playground, an arcade, a lot of open grass to play on, and a gazebo with benches you can sit on and enjoy the beautiful view of the ocean.

I am glad I went on a weekday and had a quiet peaceful day with my beautiful Fiance. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone! I don't have that much luck when I look for seaglass here but there is some if that's something you're interested in aswell. All in all, it was a successful trip.

There is an event going on now in Pokemon go called the Season of Mischief. It features Hoopa and offers you the chance to add this Pokemon to your collection! If you haven't played in a while now would be a great time to jump in and catch up on all the exciting things happening over on Pokemon Go. I am back after not playing for 3 years and the game has changed dramatically. If your only experience with it is from when the game first came out, give it another try.

York beach. Come for the Pokemon, stay for the chocolates.
