Travel Pro Places of Interest #263: Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai Thailand! Final Part Sixteen (11 photos)

Without a doubt Wat Doi Suthep is one of the nicest, most well kept, and certainly one of the most decked out Buddhist Temples I have ever visited anywhere in Asia. It also has a location that can't be beat; high up in the mountains looking over the city of Chiang Mai.

Getting here on motorbike is a real thrill too. It's a beautiful 15 kilometer ride up the mountain from Chaing Mai. The roads are newly paved, the air is fresh, and it's an bike adventure through the jungle and up the mountain offering some incredible views as well.

Once you arrive at Wat Doi Suthep, you are greeted with a somewhat touristy atmosphere with lots of souvenir shops, people walking around, restaurants serving up a local favorite Khao Soi, a delicious coconut curry noodle soup; and there is an overall festive atmosphere.

The temple is free and open to the public for anyone who can climb the seemingly endless stairs to reach the main entrance. Once you do the climb you are in a whole other world of Buddhist shrines, monks, artifacts, and culture.

The temple area is quite large, including a huge platform area to enjoy the view looking down on the city of Chiang Mai. Seems like every inch of this place has been detailed with Buddhist related art, sculptures, statues, gardens, and something beautiful to photography; and of course that is exactly what I did. So come along and lets have a closer look at Wat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai Thailand!

THANK YOU
