Fremont Canyon, part 1 - Wondrous Wyoming

Here's another post of the pictures I took two weeks ago when we took the meander up to the dams. This one is along the road between the Alcova and Pathfinder Dams. Another stunning piece of Wyoming geography where you can never be quite sure what you will find around the next bend...

There were almost no clues about this amazing feature with 200-foot-high walls (in this shallow area) until you cross the bridge and are suddenly there. There's very little information on the internet about this canyon. In fact, there's more on the sign (below) than I was able to find online!

In these pictures, we're looking downstream (Northeast) on the North Platte River about 30 miles from Casper.

Near the bridge gives one of the best views.

Looking down from the observation platform - not recommended for those with vertigo!

Nearer the bridge again.

Opuntia polyacantha - Wyoming's Prickly Pear cactus. Amazing to know that there is a cactus that survives the cold of Wyoming winters!

Sphaeralcea coccinea - Scarlet Globemallow which appears to have medicinal uses! Another post on that coming soon!

While looking for more information about Fremont Canyon, I found this excellent video showing the area even better.

In part two, we'll look upstream, at the bridge, and see more of the wildlife we found there.
