Hey guys! Today I want to tell you about our next Mexico road trip stage. After a gorgeous day in Puebla, our next destination was not far away - only 15km to be exact. The " Pueblo Magico" Cholula, borders directly on the city area of the Mexican metropolis. Just keep on reading if you want to know how my girlfriend and I liked the third Pueblo Magico of our trip!
Hallo Leute! Heute möchte ich von unserer nächsten Mexiko-Roadtrip-Etappe erzählen. Nach einem traumhaften Tag in Puebla, war unser nächstes Ziel nicht weit entfernt - genauer gesagt nur 15km. Denn das "Pueblo Magico" Cholula, grenzt direkt an das Stadtgebiet der mexikansichen Metropole. Lest einfach weiter, wenn ihr wissen wollt, wie meiner Freundin und mir das dritte Pueblo Magico unserer Reise gefallen hat!
It takes just half an hour by car to reach the centre of Cholula from Puebla's old town. The two cities merge into each other almost seamlessly. With a population of about 105,000 inhabitants, Cholula is much smaller than Mexico's fourth largest city though. After a first walk, we enjoyed a delicious cucumber water (my favourite Mexican drink) under the arcades on the main square.
Es dauert gerade einmal eine halbe Stunde mit dem Auto, um das Zentrum von Cholula von Pueblas Altstadt zu erreichen. Die beiden Städte gehen quasi fließend ineinander über. Cholula ist jedoch mit ca. 105.000 Einwohnern deutlich kleiner als Mexikos viertgrößte Stadt. Nach einem ersten Spaziergang genossen wir ein leckeres Gurken-Wasser (mein mexikanisches Lieblingsgetränk) unter den Arkaden am Hauptplatz.
Passing the many colorful house facades of the city, we went to the pyramid of Cholula. According to its volume, it is the largest pyramid in the world. However, the building is not preserved in its full glory. Only at the foot you can see real pyramid structures. Otherwise, all you really notice is a hill with a church at the top. Despite the enormous heat on this day, we dared to climb up and were rewarded with a fantastic view.
Vorbei an den vielen bunten Hausfassaden der Stadt, ging es für uns zur Pyramide von Cholula. Es handelt sich dabei um die, dem Volumen nach, größte Pyramide der Welt. Allerdings ist das Bauwerk nicht in seiner vollen Pracht erhalten. Nur am Fuße kann man wirkliche Pyramiden-Strukturen erkennen. Ansonsten nimmt man eigentlich nur einen Hügel wahr, an dessen Spitze sich eine Kirche befindet. Trotz der enormen Hitze an diesem Tag, wagten wir den Aufstieg und wurden mit einer traumhaften Aussicht belohnt.
As already mentioned in the title, Cholula is located at the foot of Popocatépetl. From the church "Santa Maria de los Remedios" on the top of the pyramid you can admire the volcano in its full beauty. During a walk around the cathedral, which also impressed us with its magnificent interiors, we got a feeling for the dimensions of the metropolitan region of Puebla, where more than 3 million people live.
Wie bereits im Titel erwähnt, befindet sich Cholula am Fuße des Popocatépetl. Von der Kirche "Santa Maria de los Remedios" auf der Pyramidenspitze kann man den Vulkan in seiner vollen Pracht bewundern. Bei einem Spaziergang um die Kathedrale, die uns auch mit ihren prunkvollen Innenräumen begeisterte, bekamen wir ein Gefühl für die Dimensionen der Metropolregion Puebla, in der über 3 Millionen Menschen leben.
After the descent, we strolled a little more through the streets and markets of the city. We enjoyed our time in Cholula de Rivadavia very much - even though we agreed that we liked the other two Pueblos Magicos of our trip so far (Tepoztlan and Taxco) even more. The following day, we went to an absolutely extraordinary place, which I will tell you about in the next post.
Nach dem Abstieg schlenderten wir noch etwas durch die Straßen und Märkte der Stadt. Wir genossen unsere Zeit in Cholula de Rivadavia sehr - auch wenn wir uns einig waren, dass uns die anderen beiden Pueblos Magicos unserer bisherigen Reise (Tepoztlan und Taxco) noch besser gefallen haben. Am darauffolgenden Tag ging es für uns an einen absolut außergewöhnlichen Ort, von dem ich euch im nächsten Beitrag berichten werde.
