Being one of the countries in the Pacific ring of fire, Indonesia is surrounded by many active and inactive volcanoes. One of them is Mount Prau which is located in the Dieng plateau, Wonosobo, Central Java. Mount Prau, which has a height of 2,565 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in the Dieng plateau area. Even so, this mountain is friendly for novice climbers. If the dry season, the temperature here can reach three degrees Celsius to minus nine degrees Celsius. This is caused by the phenomenon of Aphelion or the farthest point between the Earth and the Sun.

In this phenomenon, the distance between the earth and the sun reaches 152.1 million kilometers. If you're lucky, you can find crystallized dew on the surface of the leaves, grass, or even the climbers' tents.

MANY CHOICES OF ROUTES

As the boundary of four districts, namely Batang district, Kendal district, Temanggung district, and Wonosobo, Mount Prau has six routes as climbing options.

-VIA KALILEMBU, the track on this route tends to be gentle. Kalilembu Basecamp is located in Kalilembu village, Kejajar sub-district, Wonosobo district.

-VIA DIENG WETAN, is a favorite route because it is close to Dieng tourism objects and is suitable for climbers who want to take a leisurely walk. This basecamp is located in Dieng Wetan village, Kejajar sub-district, Wonosobo

-VIA DWARAWATI, called the Dwarawati route because the location of the basecamp is close to the Dwarawati temple. How to find this path, you must first find the Dwarawati temple. It is located in the village of Dieng Kulon, Kejajar sub-district, Wonosobo district.

-VIA CAMPUREJO, this is a new route that is not widely used by climbers. If you are the lazy type of climber with busy routes, and want to try a new route, the campurejo route is worth a try. This basecamp is located in the village of Campurejo, Tretep sub-district, Temanggung district.

-VIA WATES, this trail is famous for its gentle slopes. Climbers can cover the path in just three hours with a distance of 4.7 kilometers. Located in the village of Wates, Wonoboyo district, Temanggung district.

The last route is via Patak Banteng. This path is the favorite path of most climbers. In addition to the relatively fast distance, the Patak Banteng route is also the route that has the highest number of quotas compared to other routes. 600 climbers every day.

AFFORDABLE ENTRY TICKETS!

Just like other mountains, the requirement to climb must complete SIMAKSI (permit to enter the conservation area) for the Patak Banteng basecamp, a fee of Rp. 15,000 for participant fees, and Rp. 10,000 for the basecamp facility fee. For other lines, have different prices, but not more than 25,000. If you bring your own vehicle, don't worry, Patak Banteng basecamp provides a very large parking lot.

NEW PROVISIONS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

If on a normal day the Patak Banteng route contains a quota of 600 climbers, then, after the Covid-19 pandemic and the social distancing-physical distancing policy, the Mount Prau administrator also made a decision for the quota for each route. Patak Banteng cut the daily quota to 200 climbers. It should be noted that Mount Prau has no springs along the path or peak. So climbers are required to bring enough logistics.

As for other provisions in the form of tightened inspection of luggage, such as; climbers may only use half the capacity of the tent from its actual capacity. If you bring a tent with a capacity of four people, the tent can only be used for two people. If you go alone with your friends, then you and your friends must bring their own tents. Each climber is required to bring a hand sanitizer, bring at least two masks to change, must carry a health check certificate valid only two days after the examination, and must check body temperature.

THERE ARE ONLY FOUR SHELTERS.

SHELTER-1, SIKUT DEWO. From Patak Banteng basecamp, it is only about 500 meters and can be reached within thirty to one hour drive. Before arriving at the Sikut Dewo shelter, you will first pass through a settlement, and a cement staircase. Then, the terrain is coral.
