Koh Phi Phi Island has always been a dream of my and on my bucket list since seeing that movie "The Beach" starring Leonardo DiCaprio which was filmed on one of the islands of Koh Phi Phi called Koh Phi Phi Le, so last Friday with a few friends we decided it was time we visit these islands on Koh Phi Phi the island consists of 2 big islands and 4 smaller islands.
We had decided to stay on Koh Phi Phi Island for the weekend apart from all the stunning white sand beaches this island has a beautiful national park, many beach bars, restaurants with budget accommodation or ultimate luxury accommodation we decided on budget accommodation, just basic bamboo bungalow with fan no air-con doing it tropical style, some of my friends have been to this island before and said the views from this resort we were going to stay at has amazing views, we didn't book ahead for two reasons it's cheaper on arrival because you can work out a better deal face to face as things are still very quite in Thailand with no real sufficient numbers of tourist arriving anytime soon it's the best time to be traveling Thailand at the moment.
Koh Phi Phi Island is located in the Andaman Sea about 42 km from main island Phuket and there are two ways of getting there the slow way or fast way the slow way is by normal ferry boat taking two and a half hours costing you $12 US (400 Baht) a return ticket per/person or speedboat which will take 50 minutes to get you to the Koh Phi Phi Island, we negotiated with a speedboat driver for $36 US (1,200 Baht) return trip per/person and this was a low price because of slow business on the island.
We were on our way and as we were getting closer to this amazing stunning island, I could see those inviting white sandy beach surrounded by them lush green towering limestone mountains my adrenaline was beating with excitement just at first sight I couldn't wait to feel that fine white sand between my toes and splash around in that clear sparkling turquoise water.
The speedboat driver was nice enough to drop us off at the Phi Phi island town pier which cut about a kilometer walk from the Phi Phi beach pier it was here were our resort was called the View Point Resort, I could see it on top of the mountain and it seemed like my friends were right I couldn't wait to get up there to check out the views from above. We walked along a nice concrete pathway up to this resort there were six of us in total and arriving at reception, I let my friends do the negotiating we got three rooms my room was a nice little bamboo bungalow with fan almost on the edge of the cliff over-looking all of Phi Phi island and only costing me $15 US (500 Baht) per/night what a bargain and what a view.
The Phi Phi View Point Resort was certainly the ideal location to be on this island close to town and beaches but also the resort had it's own swimming pool, coffee/breakfast shop with a great view and beautiful unusual fruity gardens but the views from up here were just breathtaking and this was the main highlight of this spectacular resort and of course it had more luxurious accommodation if you wanted that.
After settling down in the resort we took a walk down to the main beach of Phi Phi Island, I just had to see that dream beach that I had been so longing to see to walk and feel the beach to know that I wasn't dreaming, I had see so many postcards of this beach and you know postcards are always over the top but seeing this beach in real it was definitely better then any postcard. I couldn't believe how crystal clear this water was and swimming in it was just like a lukewarm bath.
The beaches were one thing but scuba diving or snorkeling here I was told is out of this world it has some of the world's best marine life and coral and we were about to find that out the next day we had a Speedboat driver organized to pick us up and others from the town pier at 10 am Saturday morning to take us out to the best spots for a bit of snorkeling, unfortunately none of us have done or know how to scuba dive but we were content with snorkeling and a bit of wild fun diving and jumping of the boat.
Arriving at our destination the Speedboat driver anchored his boat and the fun began aimed with our snorkeling gear and underwater cameras in we went to explore the underworld marine life.
I would love to know the names of these beautiful tropical fishes or the coral but, I can say it was one exhilarating experience for me never seen such a beautiful colorful underworld marine life like this before.
The next day been Sunday, we still had all morning and most of the afternoon our return Speedboat wasn't coming for us till 4pm so we decided to do a bit of hiking through the national park and another swim in them amazing beaches around the island before calling it the day. Maya Bay National Park has a fee of $12 US (400 Baht) per/person to enter and that will allow you on all the six islands beaches and national park that fee is actually paid upon first entering onto Phi Phi island.
A good morning hike great views stretched our legs and it was time to pack our bags and head down for one last swim on that sparkling clear water beach before jumping on our boat home but not before one last view from View Point Resort, this has been another most adventures weekend in Thailand and Koh Phi Phi Island, I will be back to see more of you.
