Hiking expedition with Bivak experience (1260 m), Slovenia

Hello dear Hive community, the markets are down, but we still write articles and share cool experience, because that is what we love.
These weekends are short, and the days are getting even shorter.
Therefore, you sometimes have to do unusual things to get what you want. For example, hiking in the mountains in total darkness to create good memories and discover nightlife in the nature.

At late Saturday we began at 15:00 to pack our essential luggage meaning some food, cups, pot and some chocolates and beers, the camera, sleeping bags and warm clothes. With tying our hiking boot to our feeds, we were perfectly ready to go up.

Today we decided to go from 200 meters to reach a mountain cabin, located on 1260 meters. Meaning we had to do around 1060 meter elevation, and we started at 16:00 from Kobarid (Soca Valley).

The mountain we are planning to visit today is called Stol, which in Slovene language means chair. It's not one of the highest mountains in the Western Julian Alp, but definitely it's the longest. Reaching out around 35 kilometers from Kobarid to Gemona in Italy. After our trip, we got to know that the mountain contains full tunnels from the war. This is pretty scary because we have even seen some hidden entrances on the way.

The hike began with a steep starting through very beautiful forest with lots of rocks lying everywhere. We calculated that the whole journey will take us three hours to reach our goal. We only took some break before sunset at 17:00 to remove some clothes because we were starting sweating like hell. Even passing the first half an hour of the nightfall, we still didn't use our headlights to navigate through the mountain. In some point this became impossible, because we couldn't figure out the marks showing us the way. We definitely didn't want to get lost in the forest.

Starting with headlight, we continuously moved up quite fast. Only once we lost the path, getting caught in a very tick fog. We realized there is no more marks, so we turned around to find the last symbol which we saw.

More and more fighting the steep path, we realized the next day that the path on some parts goes on top of a narrow ridge with a precipice on both sides. Only one meter space to walk. Reaching the plato feels very relieving, and give us motivation and power to move forward.

Here we have to mention some of the creepy experience happening. We heard some howling of the wolf's, but it seemed far away as well. Suddenly we saw lots of eyes reflecting out of the darkness. With the headlights, we realized it was only a group of goats chilling and not being disrupted at all.

From the plato we have a nice view on the valley, and we could spot lights from the villages. Passing few different huts, we finally reached our destination. It took us exactly like we thought, three hours.

The bivak is always welcoming the travelers and hikers. Celebrating our success with deserved beer. First thing, we select the wood for the fire from the nearby forest. Listening some electro music and preparing the dinner, we were very happy living in the moment. Adding maximum temperature to the fire, we go to sleep. The sleeping space is upstairs, and you also can find some emergency old blankets.

After a short night and zero degrees in the morning, we were again rewarded with beautiful light and view on mountains covered in snow. From here we discovered many places we want to discover in the future. With the cup of tea and some bread in our belly, we enjoyed being surrounded by lots of Alpine Chamois. The sun was strong, and we enjoyed the sunbathing in the grass with the view to the Mediterranean Sea.

Seeing the path the first in the daylight and the surrounding, left many beautiful impressions. Fully charged with vitamin D from the sun, we reached home around 13:30. We were with no surprise very tired because making such elevations is not easy. If we can do more hikes in the future it will be easier, getting used to the efforts.
