A few years back, nobody knew about this place… I believe it was just around 2019 that people started putting The Ruins in their itineraries for Bantayan Island.
Honestly, I first asked myself, “what gives?” What is so amazing about this place?
I’ve come across a few posts about it and I gotta say it’s Instagrammable — given you have the right angles.
So, just like any tourist going to Bantayan Island in Cebu, it was the first one on our checklist.
We went around the place and there’s actually more than meets the eye. People can actually go there for a swim FOR FREE. If it’s high tide, you can go in for a jump and do all that cool parkour-cliff-diving moves. In our case, it was low-tide when we got there (and I don’t think my husband would approve either way 😂)
When we got into the Ruins, there were a few couples there taking photo opts in almost every corner of the Ruins. We didn’t want to get in the way so we took a few photos by the cliff with a much more beautiful, breath-taking view!
The Ruins is known for its artsy vandals. Couples probably go there to spray-paint their initials. For most people, they go for that adrenaline-filled cliff jumping experience.
Honestly, there are a lot of “angles” to try when having a little photo op in The Ruins. JUST BE CAREFUL WITH SNAKES!! 🐍
Yes, you’ve read that right. Just when I was getting to the next “room,” I saw a medium-sized green snake. Thought it was dead. But boy, was I wrong. I was supposed to take a picture of it but it moved! (Another tanga moment here 😂)

So, should you go to The Ruins if you were to visit Bantayan Island?
Yeah, sure. It’s not exactly magnificent. But it’s the perfect place for photo ops! You can definitely fire up your Instagram with this one!
Plus, it’s FREE! You can easily navigate it and the signal is pretty strong there! Just a little word of caution though ⚠️
The road was not well off when heading to our next destination after The Ruins. We went there in early October 2021. Maybe it will be better when you visit there 😊
