Hello. Today, I greet you from the Valide Köprü village of Kocaeli's Karamürsel district. Although this place is small, it is an undiscovered beauty. I have visited many historical ruins until today, but this is one of the most interesting ones. First of all, when you come here, "Why would an Ottoman Valide Sultan build a bridge so far from the center?" one thinks. But then, when you read about her life, you see that Kösem Sultan had works built in many places such as this bridge.
Merhabalar. Bugün sizleri Kocaeli'nin Karamürsel ilçesine bağlı Valide Köprü köyünden selamlıyorum. Burası küçük bir yer olmasına rağmen adeta keşfedilmemiş bir güzellik. Bu güne kadar birçok tarihi kalıntıyı ziyaret ettim, fakat burası onların içinden en ilginç olanlarından. Öncelikle buraya geldiğinizde "Bir Osmanlı valide sultanı neden merkezden bu kadar uzak bir yere bir köprü yaptırır?" diye düşünüyor insan. Fakat sonra hayatını okuduğunuzda görüyorsunuz ki Kösem sultan, bu köprü gibi birçok yere eserler yaptırmış.
Although the restoration is not of high quality, the bridge still reflects its former glory. The road leading to the bridge is made of stone, which is one of the classical roads of the Middle Ages, and looks very well preserved. The water passages called the eye under the bridge are three in size, one big in the middle and two small ones on the sides.
Yapılan restorasyon çok kaliteli olmasa da köprü hala eski ihtişamını yansıtıyor. Köprüye giden yol Ortaçağ'ın klasik yollarından olan taştan yapılmış ve oldukça güzel korunmuş görünüyor. Köprünü altındaki göz denilen su geçme yerleri ise ortada bir büyük ve yanlarda iki tane de küçük olmak üzere üç tanedir.
Since the place where the bridge is located is a small cute village, rural life prevails here. People generally make a living from agriculture and animal husbandry. In the photo above, you can even see the wool of the sheep, which gets caught in the wires as they pass through the wires.
Köprünün bulunduğu yer küçük şirin bir köy olduğundan burada kırsal yaşam hakim. İnsanlar genellikle tarım ve hayvancılıkla geçiniyor. Hatta üstteki fotoğrafta koyunların teller arasından geçerken tellere takılarak kopan yünlerini görebilirsiniz.
To talk about Kösem sultan who built the bridge: Kösem sultan is a Valide Sultan who took an active role in the Ottoman state administration. She is the wife of the Ottoman Sultan Ahmet I and the mother of Murat IV and İbrahim I. Kösem Sultan, who is presumed to be Bosnian, lived in the 16th and 17th centuries and was strangled on September 2, 1651.
Köprüyü yaptıran Kösem sultandan bahsetmek gerekirse: Kösem sultan Osmanlı devlet yönetiminde etkin rol almış bir Valide Sultandır. Osmanlı Padişahı 1. Ahmet'in eşi olup, 4. Murat ve 1. İbrahim'in annesidir. Bosnalı olduğu tahmin edilen Kösem sultan 16. ve 17. yüzyıllarda yaşamış ve 2 Eylül 1651'de boğularak öldürülmüştür.
Kösem Sultan, who left her mark on a period, had structures such as mosques, madrasahs, masjids, inns, bridges and fountains built in different regions within the borders of the Ottoman Empire. One of them is the Valide sultan Bridge, which is between Iznik and Karamürsel, which is the subject of my sharing. This bridge, whose exact construction date is unknown, is dated to the 17th century. The bridge, which was built of cut stone in the style of classical Turkish architecture, has three eyes, pointed arches, is surrounded by railings on both sides and is 64 meters in length.
Bir döneme damgasını vuran Kösem Sultan, Osmanlı Devleti sınırları içinde farklı bölgelerde cami, medrese, mescid, han, köprü ve çeşme gibi yapılar yaptırmıştır. Bunlardan biri de paylaşımıma konu olan İznik ile Karamürsel arasında bulunan Valide sultan Köprüsüdür. Kesin yapım tarihi bilinmeyen bu köprü 17. yüzyıla tarihlendirilmektedir. Klasik Türk mimarisi tarzında kesme taştan inşa edilen köprü, üç gözlü, sivri kemerli ve iki yanı korkuluklarla çevrili olup boyu ise 64 metredir.
