Trying Local Food at Ban Rachan Old-Style Market

Hello everyone,

In this post, I'd like to share a marketplace where you can eat local food and learn Thai history. I headed to Ban Rachan Old-Style Market in Singburi Province, Thailand. It's about 2-3 hours from Bangkok by car. Let's step back to the Ayutthaya Period. Ban Rachan Village was located in the north of Ayutthaya. In Thai history the villagers of Bang Rachan bravely fought against the Burmese army in 1765.

Ban Rachan Old-Style Market (ตลาดไทยย้อนยุคบ้านระจัน)

Ban Rachan's old-style market is located in Pho Kwao Ton Temple in Singburi. This market has an atmosphere like the Ban Rachan camp in the Ayutthaya period. Inside the market, you will see many local foods and desserts. This market is different from the other market as vendors dress in traditional costumes, so it seems like you are walking in that period.

You can enjoy local Thai foods and desserts with seats by the river.

These are my foods: Som Tum (Papaya salad), fried spring rolls, and grilled fish with Thai noodles. I loved all of these yummy dishes.

I like this beverage shop because they use palm leaves as drink containers. The other shops also use eco-friendly containers.

There are interesting handmade souvenirs like wicker baskets, wicker hats, and wooden swords.

This market is open only on the weekends and Thai national holidays.
