Travel Journal: Road Trip Nova Scotia – A day at Halifax (Public Gardens, Food, Impressions)

After our breakfast and our walk, I had a bit of time for myself because my brother had to work. I decided to go for a longer walk even if the weather was still not that great. I walked thorugh the city and like mentioned I was fascinated by the mixture of old and modern buildings. Here are two examples of this, however, it was hard to capture:

More impressions of my walk:

I ended up at Public Gardens and I directly forgot that I was in a big city.

On my way back to the hotel, I took some more photos of my impressions:

This is the most Canadian thing that I saw so far:

I met up for lunch with my brother. We went to the restaurant ‘Salty´s’ right next to our hotel. We had bacon wrapped scallops and our first lobster roll. The bacon was too strong for the scallops in my opinion. The lobster roll was special because it was served on a croissant, however, it tasted great!

I drank a local IPA by Alexander Keith´s Brewery. After lunch, I had to lay down for an hour or two because the jetlag was noticeable. The positive aspect of this was, that we could go on with beer and food afterwards. At 4 in the afternoon, we could watch the game between PSG and Manchester City (Championsleague) at a local sports bar.

After the game, we had to decide for a restaurant for dinner. We had a lot of restaurants on our minds, however, due to heavy rain we went to the closest one. Lucky for us, the 2 Doors Down was a great location and the food was amazing. As starters we ordered fish tacos and clam chowder:

As entrees we both had the offer of the day: Scallops on celery puree with kale made in apple budder and a mushroom & bacon risotto.

This entrée was only 24 Canadian dollar, and it was one of the best dishes we had on our journey! Amazed by the great food, we also got a dessert: chocolate and peanut cake with salted caramel.

On our way back to the hotel, we came by a place that offered coffee and craft beer. It was filled with working students, and we grabbed a beer. It was also integreated a wall for bouldering.

Another Canadian thing we saw on our walk was this:

A bar for beer and throwing axes does not sound like smart idea in my opinion. Hold my beer….

We will start our road trip tomorrow and pick up our rental car at noon. Stay tuned for the first photos from outside Halifax!

Talk to you soon,
