The Four Visiting Nurses At Café Hawelka - That Famous Café in Vienna

2a.jpg

The Four Nurses from Bavaria...

They came all the way from Germany and they are all Registered Nurses from the Philippines working for a hospital in Bavaria.

It was the last day of their city tour and I met them at St. Stephens Cathedral to make a tour of the Catacomb at the Dome. It was according to them a scary tour of seeing those skulls, skeletons, caskets and urns of the nobilities and pest victims of the past centuries. But in the end, they seemed to have found it interesting. After that, as a last resort, we treated ourselves with a good coffee, hot chocolate, Ice coffee and the famous Sacher Torte. I introduced them the famous coffee shop in town , the Café Hawelka which has been an institution for people in politics, journalists, intellectuals, authors , students, artists and local entertainers for decades.

THE CAFÉ
Café Hawelka in the 1st district of Vienna is one of the last great Central European tradition of literary and artist coffee houses. It is still run by the Hawelka family, as once Leopold Hawelka and his wife Josefine, like 80 years ago when they ran the café opened.

IN-HOUSE COFFEE
Tradition has good taste! The third generation is now roasting for you personally. For everyone who also wants to stay at home for a while, doesn't want to forego coffee culture at work or wants to serve their guests special treats.

Locals and tourists alike come here to taste not only the delicious Buchteln of Josefine Hawelka, the wife of Leopold but also the famous Sacher Torte. Josefine Hawelka´s legendary Buchteln (warm yeast dumpling) is still being served as a way of tradition even after her death. The son Günter is a pastry master and whenever he bakes this, its whole aroma runs through the coffee shop.

Perfect taste, the Sacher Torte , yum yum, so scrumptious! I could say this even tasted better than the original Sacher Torte....

Look at those spongy and tasty layers of the cake...delish!

When we entered the café, it was jampacked with guests that we hardly got a table at around 4:00 PM. We left at around 5:30 PM and we took this picture before we left.
