Sauk County is located in South Central Wisconsin and is named for the Sauk/Sac Tribe that live in the Midwest and historically hunted buffalo, lived in villages, raised crops, and actively traded with other tribes. It is impossible for me to look out on this landscape and not imagine what it must have been like for the people who lived here before me.
Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
Today it is still a mostly rural area and a lovely place to go for a drive on quiet country roads.
This placid looking river is not as quiet as it appears on the surface. But on a hot summer afternoon it is a lovely place to stop to take a few photos and watch the water flow past!
