It was nothing short of a normal day in January when my friends and I decided to pack our bags and off we go to the Northern part of Mindanao. We rode a one-and-a-half-hour bus ride going to Kidapawan and a 30-minute habal-habal ride to Arakan. We just wanted to see the falls and trek into the mountains of Matigol.
Well, what we thought was an ordinary adventure turned out to be one of the most life-changing journeys we've had by far. We received a call the night before that our friend is doing an outreach program in the small community of Matigol, in the same exact place of our base camp.
What an adventure of a lifetime while reaching out to the beautiful village of Matigol.
The first trek of the year and we're joining the #TeamExplorer on their outreach program to the remote community of Sitio Inamong. Whether it is trekking across the astonishing trail of Arakan and finding yourself playing with the Aeta's kids. I realized that this is the kind of adventure I needed and the world too.
This unexpected adventure taught me how to appreciate the littlest things in life. We always meet people, sometimes the same exact people we see and talk to every day but there is nothing deeper than the connection we create with people we just met -- strangers who became friends.
We always seek connections everywhere not knowing that these happen in the most unexpected ways and even on the farthest part of the road less paved.
