I have two more stops from our trip to the Netherlands back in April and then I'll be done talking about the country. To be honest neither stop warrants its own post so I'm going to put them together right now and be done with it. I might have even skipped posting about them entirely but I'm a sucker for the pins on #Pinmapple, so here it goes.
Nuenen
The first stop is to the small town of Nuenen. I saw it mentioned on several blog sites as a place to see when I was doing my research on things to do near Eindhoven. It came up as a quaint little town worth checking out, so we did just that. It's only about a 10-15 minute drive from the city where we were staying so I figured "why not?"
The town was nice and all but to be honest, it wasn't a "must see" destination by any stretch of the imagination. That is just my opinion mind you.
Something interesting about the town though is that it was home to the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh in the year 1883.
The town has a museum dedicated to the artist and several monuments around including his original home at the time. I walked by the house and read the plaque but I didn't take a photo of it. Instead I took a photo of a Michelin star restaurant across the street (below). Why? I don't know. We didn't even eat there.
We ate lunch at a different location after doing a quick walk around town and then headed to our hotel over in Eindhoven.
That is it for that city.
The Beach
Pretty much the entire West coast of North and South Holland is sandy beach land.
There was no town where we went but the general location that we visited was across from Lisse between the larger cities of Leiden and Haarlem.
We rode our bikes there from Leiden one day and spent some time walking in the sand and soaking up the April sunshine.
It wasn't hot out that day but we wouldn't have gotten into the water anyway. I imagine the water stays cold all year round given how far North it is.
The beach was really nice though.
There were a lot of shells close to the edge of the water...
but just a little further back the sand was fine and white.
The entire area is surrounded by dunes and desert like vegetation.
The walking path is lined with wire so you can't wander in there freely...
but it's a nice area to take a stroll with an interesting sort of landscape.
That is, if you're okay with your shoes getting full of sand.
We walked in the sand and saw the water and then headed back to our bikes to continue on our journey.
And that's really all that I have to say about the beach.
