Here again Laura touring Argentina thanks to #Hive and a new series of walks, this time in the province of Mendoza, the land of grapes and good Malbec wine. I did this trip two weeks ago, taking advantage of the discounts before the high season of tourism begins: good prices, I could not miss this opportunity. Or maybe it was just that he wanted to have some wine a little far from home, over 1000 km to be exact 😂.
Hola amigos de Hive y compañeros viajeros, espero que se encuentren todos muy bien hoy ❤️. Aquí otra vez Laura recorriendo Argentina gracias a #Hive y una nueva serie de paseos, esta vez en la provincia de Mendoza, la tierra de las uvas y el buen vino Malbec. Hice este viaje hace dos semanas, aprovechando los descuentos antes de que inicie la temporada alta del turismo: buenos precios, no podía dejar pasar esta oportunidad. O quizás solo era que quería tomar algo de vino un poco lejos de casa, a más de 1000 km para ser exactos 😂.
In 2018 I had already visited this province, precisely the beautiful city of San Rafael , but this time I went to stay in the city of Mendoza, the capital of the province. Mendoza has a lot of beautiful landscapes and I thought it would be amazing to go again, so I did not hesitate when I saw this package in price reduction. Already having the courage to have gone alone to the north of my country , I grabbed my backpack and again traveled unaccompanied ❤️.
En el año 2018 ya había visitado esta provincia, precisamente la hermosa ciudad de San Rafael, pero esta vez fui a alojarme en la ciudad de Mendoza, la capital de la provincia. Mendoza tiene un montón de paisajes hermosos y pensé que sería increíble ir de nuevo, así que ni lo dudé cuando vi este paquete en rebaja de precio. Ya teniendo el coraje de haber ido sola al norte de mi país, agarré mi mochila y otra vez viajé sin acompañante ❤️.
No known companion, because actually when I got on the bus they immediately assigned me to my roommate, another lady who was also traveling alone. Her name is Gertrudiz and she was the one with whom I shared all this beautiful journey. Coincidentally, she is a retired dressmaker, so we spent the entire trip talking about sewing and she taught me many tips on the trade. That we both liked to sew was a very pleasant coincidence ❤️.
Sin acompañante conocido, porque en realidad al subirme al micro enseguida me asignaron a mi compañera de habitación, otra señora que también viajaba sola. Su nombre es Gertrudiz y fue con quien compartí todo este lindo viaje. Casualmente, ella es una modista retirada, por lo que pasamos todo el viaje charlando sobre costura y me enseñó muchos tips sobre el oficio. Que a ambas nos gustara coser fue una coincidencia muy agradable ❤️.
We got on the bus at 3 PM and arrived in Mendoza around 7 AM the next day. Traveling so many hours doesn't really bother me because I like to enjoy the scenery. This time we were lucky enough to sit in the front seats, so we had a very privileged view of the entire tour. The only scary thing was that during the early morning we had a terrible electrical storm, nothing was visible in front. "Poor driver" I thought, but luckily we all arrived safely 😅.
Subimos al micro a las 3 PM y arribamos a Mendoza alrededor de las 7 AM del día siguiente. Viajar tantas horas no me molesta realmente porque me gusta disfrutar el paisaje. Esta vez tuvimos la suerte de sentarnos en los asientos del frente, así que tuvimos una vista muy privilegiada de todo el recorrido. Lo único terrorífico fue que durante la madrugada tuvimos una tormenta eléctrica terrible, no se veía nada al frente. "Pobre el conductor" pensaba, pero afortunadamente todos llegamos sanos y salvos 😅.
Our first walk on the itinerary was the stop at a winery en route. Well, early enough to be there but we were all anxious to get off the bus for a while and see the first grapes of the trip.
Nuestro primer paseo dentro del itinerario era la parada en una bodega en la ruta. Bien, bastante temprano para estar en ese lugar pero todos estabamos ansiosos por bajar un rato del micro y ver las primeras uvas del viaje.
The winery complex has two parts: one where it is the commercial area and another where the factory itself is located. These factories date from the first immigrants who came to this place and still maintain certain artisan customs that end up adding value to the final product.
El complejo de la bodega tiene dos partes: una donde es el área comercial y otra en donde esta la fábrica propiamente dicha. Estas fábricas datan de los primeros inmigrantes que llegaron a este lugar y aún mantienen ciertas costumbres artesanales que terminan agregandole valor al producto final.
The tour began with a guided tour inside the wine-making plant. At this point in my life I don't know how many wineries I have been in, I really love seeing the production process and how they do it in each place. Each one has something that makes it special and it is very interesting to know the different technologies.
El recorrido empezó con una visita guiada dentro de la planta elaboradora de vino. A esta altura de mi vida no sé en cuantas bodegas habré estado, realmente me encanta ver el proceso productivo y como lo hacen en cada lugar. Cada uno tiene algo que lo hace especial y es muy interesante conocer las distintas tecnologías.
Something that surprised me the first time I saw it was that the juice used to make wine is made in huge concrete-lined pools, which are the ones you see on the sides of this corridor. Throughout my entire career as a food engineer, I saw countless stainless steel utensils, so I imagined that wine was made into something like that, but I was wrong. These large pools hold liters and liters of wine that will later be filtered and packaged.
Algo que me sorprendió mucho la primera vez que lo ví fue que el jugo para preparar vino se hace en unos enorme piletones de cemento revestido, que son los que se ven a los costados de este pasillo. Durante toda mi carrera de Ingeniera en alimentos vi innumerables utensillos de acero inoxidable, así que me imaginaba que el vino se hacía en algo así, pero estaba equivocada. Estas grandes piletas alojan litros y litros de vino que posteriormente se filtrará y envasará.
Something that I saw here that I had not seen before were these presses to make "patero" wine. The word "patero" refers to the Spanish word "pata (feet)", since this type of wine was traditionally made by crushing the grapes with the feet. Of course at an industrial level this is not the case and this equipment is used. If we think about it, it's a bit disgusting to sip a drink that has previously passed through someone's feet 😂.
Algo que vi aquí que no había visto antes fueron estas prensas para hacer vino "patero". La palabra "patero" hace referencia a la palabra en español "patas", ya que este tipo de vino se hacía tradicionalmente aplastando las uvas con los pies. Por supuesto a nivel industrial esto no es así y se utilizan estos equipos. Si nos ponemos a pensar, es un poco asqueroso somar una bebida que previamente pasó por lo pies de alguien 😂.
This winery produces a wide variety of wines and is distributed throughout the country. To preserve their artisan quality, they do not make so many liters a year, which according to them, makes them one of the most prestigious establishments in that area.
Esta bodega elabora gran variedad de vinos y hacen distribución a todo el país. Para conservar su calidad artesanal, no elaboran tantos litros al año, lo que según ellos, los hace ser uno de los establecimientos con mayor prestigio en esa área.

And after the visit to the factory, the part most awaited by everyone: the tasting. To all this, it was barely 10 in the morning and we had all eaten a light breakfast just a few hours before. However, no one said no to wine 😂.
Y después de la visita por la fábrica, la parte más esperada por todos: la degustación. A todo esto, apenas eran las 10 de la mañana y todos habíamos desayunado algo liviano apenas unas horas antes. Sin embargo, nadie le dijo que no al vino 😂.
To everyone's surprise, it turns out that that day was my partner Gertrudiz's 70th birthday. She chose to travel on her birthday and this was the gift she asked her family for. It seemed like a super cool idea to me, what better than to do something that fills your soul in this way. So we all had a specific reason to party (and drink) ❤️.
Para sorpresa de todos, resulta que ese día era el cumpleaños 70 de mi compañera Gertrudiz. Ella eligió viajar en la fecha de su cumpleaños y este fue el regalo que le pidió a su familia. Me pareció una idea super genial, que mejor que hacer algo que te llene el alma de este modo. Así que todos tuvimos un motivo concreto para festejar (y beber) ❤️.

In total we tried 7 different varieties of wines: reds, rosés, whites, champagne. Although each time they served us it was a quarter of a glass, everyone was adding and adding until there was more than a full glass on an empty stomach. It's funny because I did feel a little drunk this early, and surely everyone else was too 😂.
En total probamos 7 variedades diferentes de vinos: tintos, rosados, blancos, champagne. Si bien cada vez que nos servían era un cuarto de copa, todos fueron sumando y sumando hasta ser más de una copa llena con el estómago algo vacío. Es gracioso porque yo sí que me sentía algo ebria tan temprano, y seguramente todos los demás también 😂.
Finally, and to get some air, we went outside to see the vineyard. What I like about these plantations is that they are always so neat that they are picturesque, added to the beautiful mountainous landscape that Mendoza offers. Despite being so close to the mountain range, the day was beautiful and the sun was bright ❤️.
Por último, y para tomar algo de aire, fuimos afuera a ver el viñedo. Lo que me gusta de estas plantaciones es que siempre son tan prolijas que quedan pintorescas, sumadas al hermoso paisaje montañoso que ofrece Mendoza. A pesar de estar tan cerca de la cordillera, el día estaba lindo y el sol radiante ❤️.
At this point I think I am paying for the university for the children of the owners of this company 😂: it is the third trip that I take with them and I choose them because they fulfill the things they promise. What I like is that I feel safe even traveling "alone", because I always know someone to hang out with ❤️.
A esta altura creo que estoy pagando la universidad de los hijos de los dueños de esta empresa 😂: es el tercer viaje que hago con ellos y los elijo porque cumplen las cosas que prometen. Lo que me gusta es que me siento segura aún viajando "sola", porque siempre conozco a alguien para pasar el rato ❤️.
After all that wine we had, I felt dehydrated so I bought myself a big bottle of water. It was all very funny, I think I had never drunk this early, I would be very alcoholic if I ever had. Before, I didn't like wine, but I made friends with it during my first trip to Mendoza in 2018, so much so that in this winery I bought 3 bottles to share with my family. This was a nice little walk and we were just starting the trip ❤️.
Después de todo ese vino que tomamos me sentía deshidratada así que me compré una gran botella de agua. Todo fue muy gracioso, creo que nunca había bebido tan temprano, sería muy alcohólica si alguna vez lo hubiese hecho. Antes no me gustaba el vino, pero me amigué con él durante mi primer viaje a Mendoza en 2018, tanto que en esta bodega me compré 3 botellas para compartir con mi familia. Este fue un lindo paseito y recién empezabamos el viaje ❤️.
