France what is worth seeing if not Paris? Discover a French fairy tale called Alsace.

Colmar with its wooden houses, colorful facades and flower-lined canal.

This is a pleasure that can be obtained by walking along the cobbled streets or canoeing on the water.

I suggest starting your acquaintance with France with Alsace.

Let's start everything in order.

The first city on my trip was Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, where I spent one week.

Strasbourg is one of my favorite cities in France. I think that everyone who has visited this city at least once in the summer will want to return there and see this city in winter, when it is decorated in festive attire and ready for Christmas.

Strasbourg is an amazing combination of two cultures at once: France, with its love of charm, details, flowers and wines, and Germany - with half-timbered houses, hearty food and beer.

The main city of Alsace, Strasbourg, has its own "fairy tales": "little France".

This city is considered one of the most beautiful in Europe.

In addition, here you can find a large number of "the most beautiful French villages", the density here is simply off the scale compared to many other regions. Wherever you go, these old narrow streets, picturesque multi-colored half-timbered houses, delicious local wine and flowers, flowers, flowers are waiting for you!

The city with such a strict and harsh name, which I have always associated with the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, actually turned out to be a nice, cozy, and sometimes even a fabulous town with a complicated history. Constant transitions from Germany to France have affected its entire appearance, culture and traditions.

In this city, I had specific places that I absolutely had to visit.

So, I'm going to the first inspection of the city.

The heart of Strasbourg is the Grand Ile - its historical center. This is a large island formed by the Il River, an ideal place to explore the city and its historical atmosphere. Here are its main attractions: Strasbourg Cathedral (Notre Dame de Strasbourg), other medieval churches and architecturally diverse historical buildings.

Petite France is one of the most beautiful places in Strasbourg. The most tourist place, judging by the crowds of tourists.

This picturesque corner is located on a large island, separated from other parts of Strasbourg by canals. The charm of "Little France" consists in a lot of old half-timbered houses decorated with geraniums, whose facades are reflected in the crystal surface of the water channels. Artisans, fishermen and millers lived here in the Middle Ages.

After leaving the beautiful and beloved Strasbourg, I went to Colmar. The distance from Strasbourg to Colmar is about 30 minutes by train.

Trains run frequently, you can buy a ticket at the station at a vending machine or ticket office.

Colmar is known not only for its ancient half-timbered houses along the canals and wines, but also as the birthplace of Auguste Bartholdi, the creator of the famous Statue of Liberty.

With what pleasure I wandered through the medieval streets and in each of them there was something that caused another delight: fancy signs hanging on houses.
All the facades of the houses are decorated with love and taste. How cozy and beautiful everything is there! How much charm there is in these medieval half-timbered houses!

Inside the old city, a variety of architectural styles have taken root in an amazing way. Here you can easily find masterpieces of early Gothic, Baroque, Rococo, classicism and the heritage of the Renaissance.

Be sure to visit, of course, "Little Venice" (Petite Venise) - a romantic area of Colmar with picturesque houses by the water, where all tourists strive.

And finally: if comparing Strasbourg and Colmar, I prefer Strasbourg.

Colmar (its old town) is small, and you can get around all the interesting things of the Old Town in one day.

My advice is to stay in Strasbourg, take a walk, enjoy the beautiful city and then go to Colmar.

I think a whole day will be enough and if you want more, you can always come back or stay for one night in the wonderful city of Colmar.
