But history is written by those who hanged heroes..."** - Braveheart (1995) The grip on power must remain. The invisible hands await the right time and victim. The Malacca Sultanate and its trading allies cannot afford disruption. Public order must be preserved. Yet the rebellion of Jebat has caused a major disturbance and it has to be punished. The disobedience of Datuk Bendahara to carry the execution of Hang Tuah does not need to be punished. Only Jebat's disobedience does. Why? Because Jebat threatens the stature of power. Selective prosecution. The popular culture says that it is Hang Tuah who killed Hang Jebat. Yet in the modern literature it starts to be questioned. Although indirectly, in 1956 film **Hang Tuah**, **P. Ramlee** asks "Is Jebat guilty or am I (Tuah) guilty?". In 1961 film **Hang Jebat**, **Hussein Hanif** said it all in the title. Even though in both film Hang Tuah killed Hang Jebat, in this one Hang Tuah is the actual villain. He has chosen injustice over brotherhood and truth. ### A witness and a villain In 2006, **U-Wei Haji Saari** introduced a witness and a villain into the lore in a form of Dang Wangi and Patih Kerma Wijaya. The tie between Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat was beyond brotherly and it requires the interference of the invisible hands to break that bond. Bendahara. During the prologue of the theater play, the sound of ticking clock is playing and Patih Kerma Wijaya is walking side by side and engaged in a mute conversation with Bendahara. At the end of the play after Dang Wangi is killed, Bendahara switched into a modern shirt and pants and reveals himself as Time. Time as the factor of change in which rewrites of the **Hikayat Hang Tuah** and the **Salalatus Saladin** and **Wangi Jadi Saksi** is another version of the rewrites from the 21st century, in a totally new political and social landscape. **Wangi Jadi Saksi** takes a shot at the one in power.
