During my touring around America last year with my cousin and his wife we had decided to hit the bright lights of Las Vegas but before doing so along the way we were going to stop of at a ghost town called Nelson Ghost Town in Navada , i am one who loves exploring ghost towns , abandoned buildings or houses and this old ghost town was right up my alley it was a must see. Nelson Ghost Town in Navada is tucked away in the middle of the desert, it's a family owned "Ghost Town" which brings history to life. We were told there is an impressive collection of antique cars, buses and even planes tucked inside this old mining town couldn't wait to get there.
Nelson Ghost Town goes back to 1775 but it wasn't called Nelson town back then it was called Eldorado town because it was the Spaniards who first discovered this gold mine which was not only rich in gold but also in silver, copper and lead.
Around 1859 the mine was taken over by prospectors and miners and became known as the notorious Techatticup Mine but this lead to many disagreements over ownership, management and labor disputes and often ending up in bloodshed , murder became routine and even expected thus gaining the name "Ghost Town" today.
The dark side of Nelson town is , it was directly downstream of Eldorado Canyon and unfortunately the once boomtown was hit by flash flooding taking away all it precious minerals and making the town practically uninhabitable , what we are seeing here today is a small remaining quantity that was sitting above the flood channel.
The way this place was left is like no other - rattlesnakes in the freezer, aliens in the bedrooms, Frankenstein automobiles, etc. I’ve been to other ghost towns, and they just don’t compare.
I loved all the props and rustic feel to this old ghost town it was like we had taken a ride in a time machine and gone back a few centuries.
It was extremely fascinating walking around this ghost town just looking at all these metal advertising signs like Coca-Cola , Good Year Tires , old big safe , cooler fridge the big old ovens and more , it just took me back to my great childhood memories.
It was just like a old western movie scene out here and talking about movie scenes this ghost town has been the highlight for many feature movies , photo shoots and music videos people have come here for wedding shoots and never make it back home 😱
We even see a couple of aircraft that appear to have seemingly smashed nose first into a dune but have actually been fabricated for the filming of a movie from the 2001 crime film 3000 Miles to Graceland.
We were glad to have stopped to visit Nelson Ghost Town , i enjoyed the overall experience of walking through this town and observing the buildings and vehicles and other artifacts from days gone by. We talked at length with my cousin and his wife about what things may have been like back in the day.
