Old Town, the medieval origin of Stockholm : My walk through tour

The majority of my childhood vacations were spent in Stockholm, both during the summer and the winter. Due to the fact that I have friends living there, I continue to go there once per year to two years.

You can imagine the large number of historical structures that are perhaps dispersed all across the region, some of which date back to as far as the 13th century. This community is encircled on all sides by medieval-style alleyways, streets paved with cobblestone, and buildings that are centuries old.

Vasa Museum

The "Maritime museum" of the world is referred to as this attraction, which is at the very top of the list of things to do in Stockholm. The fact that this museum is home to the sole ship from the 17th century that is (almost) totally intact is what sets it apart from other similar establishments.

Since the day it first opened its doors, the museum has been the proud owner of this 64-gun warship. In the early 1900s, it was brought in for salvaging. Given that this museum is the most popular of its kind across the entirety of Scandinavia, there is simply no excuse for you to leave it off of the schedule you create for your trip.

Skansen Open Air Museum

Skansen, which was combined to contain a zoo of its own, is the most popular site in Stockholm and is regarded to be the first open-air museum in the country.

The zoo that is housed within Skansen is known as the Stockholm Zoo. In 1981, with the purpose of exhibiting pre-industrial Swedish culture, the museum opened its doors to the public. Artur Hazelius, who came up with the idea.

The Town Hall in Stockholm

image

The Swedish Municipal Council is located at the magnificent Stockholm City Hall, which is also the seat of the Swedish capital's government. There are a significant number of offices, meeting rooms, and reception areas there.

image

One of its most notable features is the premium restaurant known as Stadshuskallaren. As a result of Stockholm City Hall being selected as the venue for the Nobel Prize banquet, its already considerable popularity is beginning to grow even more.

Fotografiska

image

Your itinerary in Stockholm should definitely include a visit to the lively Fotografiska museum. It is a facility that displays some of the most outstanding examples of contemporary photography that has been produced in Sweden. Jan and Per Broman, who are brothers, established the company in the year 2010.

image

With the passage of time, Jan and Per Broman came to the conclusion that the building should be renovated to include a variety of new amenities, such as conference rooms, museum stores, art galleries, event spaces, and more.

The Palace of the Royal Family

image

The Royal Palace, often known as the Stockholm Palace or just the Stockholm Palace, is located in the heart of Stockholm. The current official house of the Swedish king is located in what was formerly the home of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. Included in this group are members of the Swedish Royal Family as well as officials from the King's office.

image

During the course of our visit, we were able to take part in a wide range of activities, such as viewing the Royal Court of Sweden, the Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities, the Tre Kronor Museum, and the Museum of the Royal Guards. All of these attractions were located in Stockholm.

Djurgarden

image

The island of Djurgarden, which is located in the middle of Stockholm, was at the very top of the list of places to visit. The most popular tourist destinations in Stockholm we found in this area, such as the jaw-dropping amusement park Grna Lund, the Skansen open-air museum, and extensive areas of untouched woodland and meadows.

Moderna Museet

image

The thing about Stockholm is that it has a deep past as well as an active arts community, both of which are very visible in the pieces that are displayed at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.

image

Since the year 1958, when it first opened its doors to the public, this museum has actively promoted the work of well-known modern, contemporary, and modern artists from all over the world, such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali.

image

In addition, the Tatlin's Tower is kept in this location for maintenance purposes. It is a national museum with a branch known as the Moderna Museet Malm, which is situated in the southern region of Sweden.

Oaxen Krog & Slip for supper

image

Oaxen is the name of one of the restaurants that is considered to be among the most innovative in Stockholm. It's a beautiful setting for dining, especially during the hot summer months when the days are so long. There are two distinct places in this area.

image

image

Oaxen Slip, I would always prefer the option that is cozier and less expensive, and Oaxen Krog, which is a superb restaurant choice that has been awarded two Michelin stars. Slip is a popular choice for a dish to eat at brunch among Swedes.
