Today I will show you another place that is located in the very center of Warsaw and is architecturally, historically and culturally interesting (because it was the setting for several novels and movies). This is the Three Crosses Square, in the middle of which is the Church of St. Alexander, about which I wrote recently in this post.
Pokażę wam dzisiaj kolejne miejsce, które znajduje się w ścisłym centrum Warszawy i jest ciekawe architektonicznie, historycznie, a także kulturalnie (bo stanowiło miejsce akcji kilku powieści i filmów). To Plac Trzech Krzyży, po środku którego znajduje się Kościół św. Aleksandra, o którym pisałam niedawno w tym poście.
You can enter Plac Trzech Krzyży from several sides. I got here from Jerusalem Avenue and the Charles de Gaulle roundabout. The first building I saw was a historic yellow tenement house with a large Rolex sign on the roof (you can see it in the first photo in the post). This is Henryk Natanson's Tenement House. It was established in 1910 and belonged to a family of bankers, booksellers and publishers. It is entered in the register of monuments.
Na Plac Trzech Krzyży można wejść z kilku stron. Ja dotarłam tu od strony Aleji Jerozolimskich i Ronda Charles'a de Gaulle'a. Pierwsze co zobaczyłam to była zabytkowa żółta kamienica z dużym szyldem Rolex na dachu (można ją zobaczyć na pierwszym zdjęciu w poście). To kamienica Henryka Natansona. Powstała w 1910 r. i należała do rodziny bankierów, księgarzy i wydawców. Jest wpisana do rejestru zabytków.

Poniżej możecie zobaczyć kościół św. Aleksandra. To piękny budynek. Zachecam was do przeczytania mojego posta sprzed kilku dni i zobaczenia, jak cudownie wygląda w środku.
It is a huge building of the State Economic Planning Commission. Such architecture was characteristic of the 30s of the last century. There are a lot of Polish flags here, you can even see it on the glass the lower part of the building.
Ten ogromny budynek to siedziba Państwowej Komisji Planowania Gospodarczego. Taka architektura była charakterystyczna dla lat 30 ubiegłego wieku. Dużo tu polskich flag, nawet widać ją na szybie w dolnej części budynku.
This is another beautiful, pre-war building called the Sukerts' tenement house. I like its streamlined shape, it looks like it is waving. It is very tall, has 8 floors and has a mansard roof. I wonder what it looks like inside. Tenement houses often have very spacious interiors and high ceilings. They can be arranged in a very interesting way. My imagination was especially stimulated by three large windows in a rounded section of the building. You could put a comfortable flat pillow on the windowsill and read a book there, sometimes looking out the window.
A to kolejny piękny, przedwojenny budynek nazywany kamienicą Sukertów. Podobają mi się jej opływowe kształty, wygląda jakby falowała. Jest bardzo wysoka, ma 8 pięter i posiada mansardowy dach. Ciekawe jak wygląda w środku. Kamienice mają często bardzo przestronne wnętrza, wysokie sufity. Można je bardzo ciekawie urządzić. Moją wyobraźnie pobudziły szczególnie trzy duże okna na zaokrąglonym fragmencie budynku. Można by położyć na parapecie wygodną płaską poduszkę i czytać tam ksiażkę, spoglądając czasem przez okno.
Opposite the church of St. Alexander there are columns with crosses and a figure of St. John of Nepomuk. At first I thought that the carved figure was holding a child in its arms, but after looking at it closely, I saw that it was a cross with a golden figure of Christ.
Na przeciwko kościoła św. Aleksandra znajdują się kolumny z krzyżami oraz figura św. Jana Nepomucena. Najpierw myślałam, że wyrzeźbiona postać trzyma w ramionach dziecko, ale po przyjrzeniu jej się z bliska widziałam, że jest to krzyż ze złotą figurką Chrystusa.
Nearby, there is also a statue of Wincenty Witos, the Polish prime minister several times. There is a nice pavement next to the monument and I saw a few teenage boys skateboarding there. But when I was about to take the picture in front, there were a few boys, maybe 11-12 year olds. I didn't want to photograph them, so I set the frame to the top of the monument.
Niedaleko jest także pomnik Wincentego Witosa, kilkukrotnego polskiego premiera. Obok pomnika jest fajna nawierzchnia i widziałam tam kilku nastolatów jeżdżących na desce. Za to, gdy miałam zrobić zdjęcie z przodu siedziało tam kilku chłopców, może 11-12 latków. Nie chciałam ich fotografować, więc ustawiłam kadr na górę pomnika.
