During my stay in Edinburgh, I also visited several art galleries. I liked the most at the Scottish National Gallery, where I could see a collection of works by the most famous painters and interesting sculptures, such as the one in the picture of a kissing couple. This is a sculpture by Auguste Rodin entitled "Kiss".
Podczas mojego pobytu w Edynburgu odwiedziłam też kilka galerii sztuki. Najbardziej podobało mi się w Scottish Nationall Gallery, gdzie mogłam zobaczyć kolekcję dzieł najbardziej znanych malarzy oraz ciekawe rzeźby, jak ta na zdjęciu przedstawiająca całujacą się parę. To rzeźba Auguste Rodina pt. "Pocałunek".
I was delighted with this painting by El Greco entitled "An Allegory" (Fábula). Unusual colors, strong light and a monkey that admires as much as people with the object held by the man in the middle. Strong message and a lot of symbolism, as well as a large dose of absurdity.
Zachwycił mnie ten obraz El Greco pt. "Alegoria". Nietypową kolorystyką, mocnym światłem i małpą zachwycającą się na równi z ludźmi przedmiotem trzymanym przez mężczyznę po środku. Mocny przekaz i dużo symbolizmu, a także spora dawka absurdu.
There were many paintings by famous painters in the gallery, most framed with golden frames with rich ornaments. Below you can see the painting "Niagara Falls from the American side" by the American painter Frederic Edwin Church.

The Scottish National Gallery is located in the middle of the Princess Street Gardens. The interior was built in a Victorian style, the walls are of strong colors - red and blue, and there are carpets on the floor (in the red room - green). In the gallery, you can admire the works of artists from the Renaissance to Post-Impressionism.
Here you can see a wonderful painting "Before the Performance" by Edgar Degas.
This is a relatively small canvas for Degas’s late work, and indeed, some of the dancers’ poses look back to his earlier ballet pictures from the 1870s. Here, a group of dancers are on stage preparing themselves for the impending performance: they practise their positions and one ballerina stoops to tie her shoe. The dancers are not individuals, but faceless memories of a scene he had once observed. The vivid colours are vibrant and unrealistic, evoking the surreal effects produced by the gas lights of the theatre. Pools of shadow on the large expanse of stage are also rather abstract, and it is clear that by the late 1890s, Degas was far less concerned with naturalism than in his former years. His treatment of the oil paint is very delicate, almost as if it were gouache.

Scottish National Gallery znajduje się po środku parku the Princess Street Gardens. Wnętrze zostało zbudowane w wiktoriańskim stylu, ściany mają zdecydowane barwy - czerwone i niebieskie, a na podłodze położone są dywany (w czerwonej sali - zielony). W galerii można podziwiac prace artystów od okresu renesansu do postimpresjonizmu.
Tu możecie zobaczyć cudowny obraz pt. "Przed występem" Edgara Degas'a.
Jest to stosunkowo małe płótno, późne dzieło Degasa i rzeczywiście, niektóre pozy tancerek nawiązują do jego wcześniejszych obrazów baletowych z lat 70. Tutaj grupa tancerek znajduje się na scenie, przygotowując się do zbliżającego się występu: ćwiczą pozycje, a jedna balerina pochyla się, by zawiązać but. Tancerki to nie jednostki, ale bezimienne wspomnienia sceny, którą kiedyś obserwował. Kolory są żywe i nierealne, przywołując surrealistyczne efekty wytwarzane przez gazowe światła teatru. I liked that among the visitors I saw a few people with limited mobility who, thanks to such small vehicles, could easily move around.
And on the wall you can see James Guthrie's painting entitled "In the Orchard". It shows two children, surrounding them apple trees and nearby geese. The girl takes out or puts apples from the basket full of these fruits which the boy is holding. This painting is wonderful, it radiates so much warmth. It reminds me of an idyllic scene in the bosom of nature.
Podobało mi się, że wśród zwiedzających widziałam kilka osób z ograniczoną mobilnością, które dzięki takim małym pojazdom mogły bez problemu się przemieszczać.
A na ścianie możecie zobaczyć obraz James'a Guthrie's pt. "W sadzie". Przedstawia dwójkę dzieci, otaczające je jabłonie i znajdujące się w pobliżu gęsi. Dziewczynka wkłada albo wyciąga jabłka z kosza pełnego tych owoców, który trzyma chłopiec. Ten obraz jest cudowny, bije z niego tyle ciepła. Kojarzy mi się z sielską scenką na łonie natury.

Here you can see a painting by Vincent Van Gogh entitled "Olive trees".
The writhing brushwork and strident colours contribute to the painting's powerful impact. Van Gogh was fascinated by the gnarled structures and changing colours of olive trees. He was also fully aware of their association with the story of Christ's Passion and the episode of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives. This picture is one of at least fourteen canvases of olive trees Van Gogh painted while in the asylum at Saint-Remy, and its intense character may well reflect the artist's agitated state of mind.

In the gallery, there were many paintings depicting maritime themes and landscapes.
W galerii dużo było obrazów przedstawiających tematykę morską oraz pejzaże.
And also works of portraits of people. I used to paint portraits, so it was very interesting for me to see such wonderful paintings up close by great painters.
A także dzieła przedstawiające portrety ludzi. Kiedyś malowałam portrety, więc bardzo fajnie było zobaczyć z bliska takie cudowne obrazy namalowane przez świetnych malarzy.
