I am not a particular fan of Turkey as it comes to tourism. Maybe this is the reason I was so nicely surprised to discover Marmaris. I am at my last seaside holiday this year with my family, and I was not prepared for the numerous activities in the region. It seems our 7-day vacation will not be enough to do everything you could possibly enjoy here.
I am also not a particular fan of all-inclusive tourism. And yet, I have no remarks to leave to our hosts at Grand Yazici Marmaris Palace. I am just out of the SPA center where I had my hamam and massage, and I feel too relaxed to criticize any of the services. Surprise, surprise, they are good!
So after a morning of SPA procedures and some beach time around noon, we jumped on a boat taxi service to go downtown Marmaris. I cannot but wonder at the logistics of this place. You can go everywhere, in an instant, anyhow and cheap! The whole bay is filled with yachts, boats, ships, any inflatable floating or flying device you can imagine pulled by a boat.
Once our floating taxi dropped us at the port, we had a walk down the coastline, admiring the creativity of local tour ships. Guess what is the most commonly exploited theme: Pirates of the Carribean. One in every five ships which take you on a daytrip around the bay and beyond is designed as a pirate ship. Enourmous Jack Sparrows and Davi Johns' invite you to explore caves, observe turtles and dolphins or jump in the crystal clear waters of the bay. Maybe if it was not the end of September, I would do it. But at that time of the year I can hardly spend more than ten minutes swimming.
So I did today what I do best - I found the Old Town, I climbed to the highest point of the Castle and I took some pictures that I will share with you later.
