This small walled town, built in the 15th century by Appiani Lord of Piombino, to defend itself from pirates.
Not nearly as touristy as other parts of the country, charming, and....
quaint are good ways to describe it.
In the area are a necropolis from the Etruscan era as well as a Roman villa being excavated.
There is also a beach nearby. .....
Only 17 people live within the walled section, and you can find cafe's a small museum with artifacts from the area and a climb up the tower to see ...
the amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea.
All the amenities are there, toilets, bookshop, bar and restaurant.
I was there volunteering at an archeological dig, and spent an afternoon wandering....
within the walled section of the town.
