Located in the southern part of the Malaysian peninsula and the capital of Penang state, Georgetown is the third most populous city and has been inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage since 2008. Established in 1786, the city has gained a reputation as Malaysia's gastronomic capital for its distinct and ubiquitous street food. Penang is also known as "The Pearl of the Orient"!
I have visited this town number of times and there are two things that I enjoyed the most: the street foods and the old architecture buildings which were heavily influenced by the Colonials, Chinese, and Malay. There are even terms to describe the merged of that three styles: "Peranakan". Enjoy!
Thank you for traveling with me!
This is part of my ongoing Travel Visualclips, where I shared a glimpse of my travel visuals and thought. Each series features a paragraph of the history of the place and a paragraph of my thought. Accompanied by no more than fifteen carefully curated images, each series is intended to give readers the umami of travel.
