Queridos amantes viajeros hoy les daré un recorrido virtual por una ciudad que se remonta a la edad de bronce y que es considerada como una de las más antiguas de España. Me refiero a la bellísima ciudad de Toledo, capital de Castilla - La Mancha. Hace algunos años tuve la oportunidad de visitarla en mi viaje a Europa y aunque realmente el viaje surgió de imprevisto, fue un gran abreboca para lo que continuaría días después.
Dear travel lovers, today I will give you a virtual tour of a city that dates back to the Bronze Age and is considered one of the oldest in Spain. I am referring to the beautiful city of Toledo, capital of Castilla - La Mancha. A few years ago I had the opportunity to visit it on my trip to Europe and although the trip really came unexpectedly, it was a great opener for what would follow days later.

Le llaman la ciudad de las tres culturas, porque durante siglos allí han convivido judios, árabes y cristianos. Es tanta la historia que alberga este sitio que Toledo fue declarado patrimonio de la humanidad desde 1986 por la UNESCO.

Antes de comenzar nuestra gran aventura, desayunamos en el Museo del Jamón que está ubicado en las cercanías de la estación Sol del metro de Madrid. Allí se encuentran estudiantes, turistas y muchos amigos para compartir y deleitarse con exquisitas tapas y cañas que son preparadas al momento. Lógicamente el jamón curado se cuenta entre las delicias de su menú. Si se quieren dar un gusto con las tres B, bueno, bonito y barato, vayan a este sitio.
Before starting our great adventure, we had breakfast at the Museo del Jamón which is located near the Sol subway station in Madrid. Students, tourists and many friends meet there to share and enjoy exquisite tapas and beers that are prepared on the spot. Logically the cured ham is among the delicacies on the menu. If you want to treat yourself to something good, nice and cheap, go to this place.

Luego de desayunar tomamos el metro desde la estación Sol hasta la Plaza Elíptica. Allí adquirimos unos pasajes de la línea de autobús Alsa que hacen el recorrido desde el Intercambiador de la Plaza Elíptica hasta Toledo. El recorrido es de 80 km aproximadamente y el tiempo de viaje es de alrededor de 50 minutos.
After breakfast we took the metro from Sol station to Plaza Elíptica. There we bought tickets for the Alsa bus line that makes the trip from the Plaza Elíptica interchange to Toledo. The trip is about 80 km long and the travel time is about 50 minutes.

Al llegar, el autobús hace su parada final en una especie de terminal de doble piso y desde aquí nosotros optamos por caminar. Después de algunos minutos arribamos a la Plaza Zocodover donde almorzamos antes de seguir con nuestro paseo.
Upon arrival, the bus makes its final stop at a kind of double-decker terminal and from here we opt to walk. After a few minutes we arrived at Plaza Zocodover where we had lunch before continuing our walk.

En el restaurante Mazapan El Foro Café-Bar quisimos probar dos platos típicos españoles: la paella y ensalada de perdiz. Sin embargo, les voy a ser sincera, la comida fue decepcionante. Comimos porque teníamos hambre y estábamos en plan de pasarla bien. Uno de mis platos favoritos es la paella y amo la tortilla española. Acá en Venezuela este plato lo puedes comer en los restaurantes gallegos y pensé que por estar en España sería más deliciosa, pero me equivoqué, dejo el nombre del restaurante por si van, el servicio no fue bueno definitivamente.
In the restaurant Mazapan El Foro Café-Bar we wanted to try two typical Spanish dishes: paella and partridge salad. However, I will be honest, the food was disappointing. We ate because we were hungry and we were in the mood for a good time. One of my favorite dishes is paella and I love the Spanish tortilla. Here in Venezuela you can eat this dish in Galician restaurants and I thought that being in Spain it would be more delicious, but I was wrong, I leave the name of the restaurant in case you go, the service was definitely not good.

Luego de nuestro almuerzo, caminamos un poco por sus alrededores y callejuelas. Es una ciudad limpia, organizada y muy hermosa, que evoca la época medieval pero combinada perfectamente con la vida moderna actual. Visitamos la Catedral de Santa María o Catedral de Toledana como también le llaman. Lamentablemente ese día estuvo cerrada al público, pero por lo menos pudimos apreciar su extraordinaria construcción gótica que data de los siglos XIII y XV.
After our lunch, we walked a bit around its surroundings and narrow streets. It is a clean, organized and very beautiful city, evoking medieval times but perfectly combined with today's modern life. We visited the Cathedral of Santa Maria or Cathedral of Toledana as it is also called. Unfortunately it was closed to the public that day, but at least we were able to appreciate its extraordinary gothic construction dating from the 13th and 15th centuries.

Después de toda esta caminata tomamos un tour para conocer más sobre esta bella ciudad. Hicimos un recorrido tanto por dentro como por fuera de la ciudad bordeando el Río Tajo y desde donde puedes apreciar en todo su esplendor el lugar. Desde el bus de turista puedes ver de lejos El Alcázar, La Puerta del Sol, La Catedral, la muralla perimetral y el puente con arcos, todos con ese estilo de la edad media que te hace pensar lo antiguo del sitio.
After all this walking we took a tour to learn more about this beautiful city. We took a tour both inside and outside the city bordering the Tagus River and from where you can appreciate the place in all its splendor. From the tourist bus you can see from afar the Alcazar, the Puerta del Sol, the Cathedral, the perimeter wall and the bridge with arches, all with that style of the middle ages that makes you think how old the place is.

Debido a su belleza y atractivo turístico no es de extrañar que la ciudad se dedique al sector servicio, pero curiosamente los toledanos arraigados aún en su cultura ancestral, son catalogados como los mejores fabricantes de espadas desde la época romana. A partir del siglo XXI la industria de la espada decayó, pero Hollywood la rescató ya que sus grandes producciones encargan a los talleres la fabricación de las espadas para su rodaje.
Due to its beauty and tourist attraction it is not surprising that the city is dedicated to the service sector, but curiously the people of Toledo, still rooted in their ancestral culture, are considered the best sword makers since Roman times. Since the XXI century the sword industry declined, but Hollywood rescued it since its major productions commissioned the workshops to manufacture the swords for their filming.

Mis recomendaciones
- Debes ir con zapatos cómodos.
- Si puedes, quédate por lo menos una noche para que puedas disfrutar más del lugar. Es un paseo largo y me han comentado que de noche es espectacular.
- Si vas a pernoctar en este sitio reserva y confirma el hotel con antelación. En temporada alta es difícil conseguir disponibilidad.
- El transporte público funciona muy bien, su logística es organizada y sus unidades son limpias. Sin embargo, puedes llegar mucho más rápido por tren. Lógicamente es más costoso que el autobús, pero lo compensan la comodidad y la rapidez.
- Lleva suficiente agua para hidratarte.
- Verifica los restaurantes por internet, no querrás decepcionarte con la comida.
- Recuerda recargar la batería de tu cámara o mejor aún, lleva batería y memoria de repuesto.

My recommendations
- You should wear comfortable shoes.
- If you can, stay at least one night so you can enjoy the place more. It is a long walk and I have been told that it is spectacular at night.
- If you are going to stay overnight in this place, book and confirm the hotel in advance. In high season it is difficult to get availability.
- Public transportation works very well, their logistics are organized and their units are clean. However, you can get there much faster by train. Logically it is more expensive than the bus, but the comfort and speed make up for it.
- Bring enough water to hydrate yourself.
- Check the restaurants online, you don't want to be disappointed with the food.
- Remember to recharge your camera battery or better yet, bring a spare battery and memory.
