Kantanagar Temple- A Journey To an Ancient Place In Bangladesh

Kantanagar Temple is an ancient temple located in the Dinajpur district of the Rangpur division of Bangladesh. It is a place of worship for the followers of the Hindu religion. The temple is located about 43 km away from our city.

There are many other such temples in Bangladesh which were established in ancient times but they are currently in ruins. Most of the buildings were buried or destroyed by the earthquake.

In the late 1800s, the Kantnagar temple was damaged by an earthquake. Kantanagar Temple is also known as Kantajew Temple. These ancient structures were built by the Hindu kings of that time.

There is a place called Paharpur Buddha Vihar in Bangladesh. It is a world heritage located in Bangladesh. Although Bangladesh is a Muslim country, the main reason for the existence of such ancient structures of other communities is that earlier in most parts of Bangladesh the system of zamindari was in operation and there was an era of kings and maharajas.

And most of the kings or zamindars were Hindus or Buddhists. There are also ancient structures built by Muslims in Bangladesh. As the number of Muslims began to increase in the Indian subcontinent, the towns of other religions began to disappear, their structures also lost their devotees and most of their monuments were destroyed.

The parts of these structures that survive surprise most people. Tourists visit these places to learn about the history and to get some idea of the lifestyle of the ancient communities. Ancient places like Kantnagar Temple or Paharpur Buddha Vihara are now popular tourist attractions.

While visiting this place I saw another monument on the road, a monument to the freedom fighters of Bangladesh.
