Weekend Walk At The Seafood Capital Of Hong Kong, Sai Kung

June 26, 2022

It's been a while since I posted a travel blog. I missed traveling since my buddy is back to work and it is still uncertain when we'll put our shoes back on trails again. On our last trip, we visited the beautiful place, Sai Kung Town, Hong Kong. One shouldn't leave Hong Kong without going to this town. It is the most visited place in New Territories and is popular for its scenic view. The fishing villages, beautiful islands, different hiking trails, and beaches are some of the beautiful spots in Sai Kung. This has also been a hub of foreign tourists as I did see a lot of western in this town. They love adventures, and this town is a perfect spot for adventure.

We visited this town after hiking a beautiful trail on the Northern Side of High Island Reservoir (and that would be my next travel blog). It was already past five in the afternoon when we reach the town, so we opted to roam around and stay until night. As we stepped out of the bus terminus, one thing that caught our attention was the boats' statuses floating at the park. This symbolizes the life of the villagers in this town.

The main source of income for the villagers is fishing and you will see a lot of boats in all sea corners of the town, especially on the waterfront.

This town is also considered as The Seafood Capital of Hong Kong where you can buy seafood freshly fetched from the sea. The waterfront is the busiest. Boats are coming in from time to time with freshly harvested seafood.

Look at those stunning mountain skylines backdrop. I want to hike those trails someday.

People could buy fresh seafood at the floating seafood market and prices are definitely less expensive than those being sold at city markets.

IMG_20220623_104717.jpg

There are different kinds of fish, small and big, clamps, seashells, prawns, shrimps, crabs, seaweeds, squid, octopus, and more.

IMG_20220623_100606.jpg

If there is seafood, of course, there are seafood restaurants as well. But if buying seafood here is less expensive than in the cities, eating at seafood restaurants here is the most expensive šŸ˜….

IMG_20220529_174156.jpg

Seafood restaurants are located along the waterfront promenade and they are always full, especially when dawn arrives. People would usually book ahead of time to dine in and have a seafood feast at night.

IMG_20220623_104536.jpg

Inside the restaurants are different tanks of fresh seafood. I once asked my boss why seafood in the restaurants is expensive, she said because a lot of foreign people visit the place.

Aside from seafood restaurants, there are cafes and local Chinese restaurants too. Starbucks, McDonald's, and other fast-food restaurants are also available in this town.

IMG_20220623_110202.jpg

It wasn't my first time going to this place as we usually eat seafood with my boss in some of the restaurants here, but it was my first time roaming around the town. The waterfront offers a wide platform where locals and tourists could relax and walk around and a perfect place to walk with your babies too.

IMG_20220623_111016.jpg

And one shouldn't miss walking on the pier.

IMG_20220529_175419.jpg

We came across this man entertaining the kids by making bubbles and spreading them in the air. Kids truly loved it and they were also dancing along with the music.

Streets are also filled with different murals by different artists. I wasn't able to take photos of others though.

The rocky platform by the seaside is a perfect spot to relax while overlooking the tranquil Sai Kung Bay. Several banana boats are everywhere and waiting for the tourists to ride on them.

Under the canopies of trees is also a perfect spot to wait for the sunset, and of course, for dating.

We moved forward and came across the WM Hotel and I was awed by its architecture. This is the biggest hotel in the town that offers a scenic view of the Sai Kung shoreline.

There are cafes, restaurants, a spa, and exciting shops that are about to open in the hotel, and its chapel is a perfect backdrop for a wedding.

The hotel is not just a perfect backdrop for weddings, but also for prenup and other special events photoshoots, especially at its spiral grand-looking staircase.

The tourists are free to take photos, so yes, we took the opportunity to do some beautiful pauses and shots.

I felt like I was having a vacation in a foreign country outside HK

IMG-20220530-WA0132.jpg

We saw people in their swimming attires on the rooftop. So there's probably a pool up there.

The hotel's owner probably loves One Piece because a giant Luffy floating statue is located in front of the hotel, and some parts are One Piece-themed as well. And based on the setting, this area serves as a performing place for live bands and other events at night.

IMG_20220529_183730.jpg

It was getting dark, but we continued walking by the seashore. Just a few walks from the hotel is the Sai Kung beach where we stayed until night.

IMG_20220623_124823.jpg

Isn't it a perfect spot to wait for the dawn? And if the settling sun is evident, that's another beauty to behold.

IMG_20220529_191130.jpg

Looking for a place to have a seafood barbeque trip at Sai Kung? The Beach Sā Club is the perfect place.

IMG-20220530-WA0188.jpg

Along the beach are different alfresco restaurants, serving different seafood cuisines and barbecues.

IMG_20220529_190155.jpg

But amongst the restaurants, the BBQ King is the most visited one where customers could either order cooked seafood or grill by themselves at the barbeque area.

IMG_20220529_193443.jpg

Apart from barbecue restaurants, there's also a Thai restaurant in the area with a beautiful setup overlooking the beach.

IMG_20220529_191023.jpg

It's such an ideal place for family gatherings and unwinding on the weekend.

IMG_20220529_192917.jpg

And of course, a perfect spot for dating. The lighting designs and effects make the place more romantic while overlooking the tranquil sea at night.

IMG_20220623_132811.jpg

We've seen this cafe serving pizzas, burgers, and others fast food.

IMG_20220529_192441.jpg

Well, if you don't want to order, then just take a souvenir shot then šŸ˜…. I love the spot facing the beach. And if I will visit this place again, I would like to visit this restaurant and sit on the same spot overlooking the beach at night.

IMG-20220530-WA0226.jpg

IMG-20220530-WA0238.jpg

The place also has a watersports club and academy for those who want to learn wake surfing and they also offer boat rentals, boat tours, and other kinds of water sports.

IMG_20220529_192041.jpg

By the beach are kayaks for rent.

IMG_20220529_191853.jpg

A group of men was having kayak racing on the water. They seemed to be preparing for a competition.

The reason why we stayed until night by the beach was to wait for these flower-shaped kayaks to glow because we have seen photos of them online, unfortunately, they didn't. Probably for special events only.

IMG-20220530-WA0235.jpg

At eight in the evening, we opted to go back to the city. It was tiring, but we had fun.

The stunning Sai Kung Waterfront at night

This was my last trip with my buddy. I hope we can travel again soon as I'm bored staying alone on weekends.

Thanks for stopping by and see you in the next travel blog.
