We popped down to the Lake District in England this weekend to see some relatives who are staying there for the week.
We've not explored the Lake District much before, so its lovely to see a bit more of it. We are staying in Bowness-on-Windermere. Its a beautiful tourist village looking out over stunning Lake Windermere.
Although warm, its been rainy, which has been leading to some pretty dramatic skies !
There were a whole load of ducks, swans and geese down at the water front. I guess they get loads of treats from the passing tourists, hence it must be a prime spot for them.
Windermere is quite popular for water sports and activities, so there was a nice array of boats for hire on the shore. I quite liked the names on the powered boats - with beauties such as Doreen and Magda !
There were also a few nice tour boats anchored down on the front.
I really did enjoy seeing the birds. They were not at all scared, and were clearly hoping we were there to feed them.
The village was quite quaint, with some very nice buildings. I dropped and cracked my phone while taking this pic ! But I need a new one anyway, so I now have a good excuse to go and get one !
Above is the cinema. I just love the building - its the old village public hall dating from the 1920s.
The main church is also a very beautiful building. Its constructed from the local stone like so many other buildings in this area, giving the area a very distinctive character.
It certainly is a beautiful area and we are looking forward to exploring it further today, before heading back to Scotland this evening.
