So a few days ago I visited Sheffield to attend a music festival, if you read my post from a few days ago you'll get a feel for what was going on. Here's the second part of my trip, highlighting day 2 in South Yorkshire.
After we awoke we went for some breakfast in a Wetherspoons pub. I normally would be OK with that, but this time the breakfast was cold. I will be looking elsewhere in future. We proceeded to stroll past the street cleaning teams scrubbing blood off the pavement, and vomit off of the telephone boxes. I guess Saturday nights in Sheffield get quite wild!
We returned to our hotem to find a country band setting up in the courtyard, after the success of the jazz band we stayed for a couple of drinks, and enjoyed some country in the sunshine. Here's the band...
After this we set off for the festival venue, we'd missed the first couple of acts so though we'd better move. We made it just in time for Franck Carducci and the Fantastic Squad, who provided an energetic and wonderful show conjuring up images or Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper and Genesis...
Next up we were treated to a band called The Skys, all the way from Lithuania. Although they weren't as visually appealing as Franck, there music made up for a lack of dynamism, with heavy, proggy riffs, and interesting song structures...
Next up was Colosseum, a bluesy band from the early 70's. I never fail to be astounded by the musicianship of some of these old rockers, 50 years of experience really shows with stage presence, talent and musicianship. They were joined on stage by Chris Farlowe, who although not in great physical shape added to a great performance. One of my highlights of the weekend...
After that were the Ozric Tentacles, a band that I hadn't seen perform for around 25 years. They were still entertaining, although were in a stripped back arrangement, minus the full band I'd previously seen...
And to finish off the evening we saw a band called Mostly Autumn, new to me, although the audience seemed familiar with what was going on. They didn't excite me, we left halfway though the set and returned to the hotel, I took these shots before we left...
So that's it, festival over. I'll be returning to my explorations of the outside world soon enough, thanks for checking out this post...
