The Argentinean Atlantic coast offers places of enviable beauty. Not only the stretch of coast from San Clemente del Tuyú, where the Río de la Plata joins the sea (Atlantic Ocean), passing through the well-known Mar del Plata, the traditional Necochea until reaching Monte Hermoso and the group of beaches located south of Bahía Blanca, with its warm waters that welcome thousands and thousands of tourists during the summer.
In the heart of Patagonia, the warm water beaches continue extending through San Antonio (East and West) to Las Grutas, a true natural paradise discovered and developed in the last decades, with an adequate infrastructure in terms of accommodation and food.
A favourite destination for the inhabitants of the big cities who can fly to the airport of Viedma, the capital of Rio Negro, it has become a place of passage for those who love to travel through Patagonia, from the sea to the mountains.
La costa atlántica argentina ofrece lugares de envidiable belleza. No solo el tramo de costa de va desde San Clemente del Tuyú, donde el Río de la Plata se une con el mar (Océano Atlántico) pasando por la conocida Mar del Plata, la tradicional Necochea hasta llegar a Monte Hermoso y al conjunto de playas situadas al sur de Bahía Blanca, con sus aguas cálidas que acogen a miles y miles de turistas durante el verano.
En plena Patagonia las playas de aguas cálidas continúan extendiéndose por San Antonio (Este y Oeste) hasta llegar a Las Grutas, un verdadero paraíso natural descubierto y desarrollado en los últimas décadas, con una infraestructura adecuada en materia de alojamientos y comidas.
Meta preferida por los habitantes de las grandes ciudades que pueden llegar en avión hasta el aeropuerto de Viedma, la capital de Rio Negro, se ha transformado en un lugar de paso para quien aman recorrer la Patagonia, desde el mar hasta la montaña.
In fact, it is a maritime corridor of 50 kms in the middle of which we can find three beaches, each one with different characteristics, from north to south: San Antonio Este, a small port and centre of commercial maritime fishing, San Antonio Oeste, a logistic centre that represents a fundamental support for the economic and tourist activity of this Patagonian Atlantic corridor, and finally Las Grutas, a tourist centre highly frequented during the summer season.
Las Grutas has had an exponential tourist development in the last few years due to the important hotel infrastructure it has been equipped with in order to be able to welcome an ever increasing mass of tourists.
Even the connection with San Antonio Oeste, the main commercial centre of this maritime corridor, was through a dirt road, now fortunately asphalted.
Today I will show you some aspects of our tour of the Grutas. In another post I will tell you about San Antonio East and the wonderful Playa de las Conchilla
En realidad se trata de un corredor marítimo de 50 kms en medio del cuál podemos encontrar tres playas, cada una con características distintas, de norte a sur: San Antonio Este, pequeño puerto y centro de la pesca marítima comercial, San Antonio Oeste, centro logístico que representa un apoyo fundamental para la actividad económica y turística de este corredor atlántico patagónico y por último Las Grutas un centro turístico altamente concurrido durante la temporada estival.
Las Grutas ha tenido un desarrollo turístico exponencial en los últimos años a causa de la importante infraestructura hotelera de la cuál ha sido dotada para poder acoger a una masa de turistas en continuo aumento.
Incluso la conexión con San Antonio Oeste, principal centro comercial de este corredor marítimo era a través de un camino de tierra, ahora por suerte asfaltado.
Hoy les haré ver algunos aspectos de nuestro recorrido por las Grutas. En otro post les hablaré de San Antonio Este y la estupenda Playa de las Conchillas.
In all seasons of the year, even in the summer with all the tourists around, fishing is one of the main attractions of Las Grutas.
And in this case the cliffs offer an excellent shelter to practice it.
Suitable for all lovers of this sport: for those who are experts and for those who are not so expert.
En todas las estaciones del año, incluso en el verano con todos los turistas alrededor, la pesca, es uno de los mayores atractivos de Las Grutas.
Y en este caso los acantilados ofrecen un excelente refugio para practicarlas.
Apta para todos los amantes de este deporte: para los que son expertos y para los que no lo son tanto.
Until a few years ago Las Grutas was a holiday resort where the only accommodation was camping.
For this reason, holidays were few and far between. Because of the discomfort of having to sleep under the stars in a tent.
It was a type of tourism reserved for young tourists, adventure and nature lovers.
In the last few years, numerous housing complexes have changed the face of this tourist resort to the level of any other in terms of accommodation.
Numerous restaurants and eateries have also opened.
Hasta hace pocos años Las Grutas era un lugar de verneo donde el único alojamiento era el camping.
Por este motivo los días vacaciones eran pocos. Por la propia incomodidad de tener que dormir bajo las estrellas dentro de una carpa.
Era un tipo de turismo reservado a turistas jóvenes, amantes de la aventura y la naturaleza.
En los últimos años numerosos complejos habitacionales le han ido cambiando la cara a este complejo turístico hasta colocarlo al nivel de cualquier otro en materia de alojamientos.
También han abierto numerosos restaurantes y casas de comida.
On days when the wind is too strong (in this part of the Patagonian Atlantic coast it is quite normal in spite of being an environment quite protected by the waters of the San Matias Gulf) it is common to take long and restorative walks along the beach or to admire the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean from the promontories that rise near the coast.
The spectacle is marvellous and more than makes up for the swim in the water that we missed.
Los días que el viento es demasiado fuerte (en esta parte de la costa atlántica patagónica es bastante normal a pesar de ser un ambiente bastante protegido por las aguas del Golfo San Matías) es frecuente hacer largas y restauradoras caminatas a lo largo de la playa o admirar la inmensidad del Océano Atlático desde los promontorios que se alzan cerca de la costa.
El espectáculo es maravilloso y compensa con creces el baño en el agua que no hemos podido hacer.
A walk in the dunes is not to be ruled out either. Ten kilometres of dunes and cliffs are more than enough to stretch your legs and develop your muscles if the sea is too rough and you don't want to take the risk of entering it.
The immensity of the Patagonian beaches allows us to enjoy splendid walks through thirteen descents with which we can access the sea without any difficulty.
Tampoco es de descartar un paseo por las dunas. Diez kms de dunas y acantilados son m0s que suficientes para estirar las piernas y desarrollar los músculos si el mar está demasiado agitado y no queremos correr riesgo entrando en él.
La inmensidad de las playas patagónicas nos permite gozar de espléndidas caminatas a través de trece bajadas con las cuáles podemos acceder al mar sin ninguna dificultad.
The little ones also have their chances to have fun with games and playgrounds in keeping with the marine environment.
Adults can enjoy a stroll along the modern pedestrian promenade, which has been developed in recent years, giving it a touch of worldliness in the middle of the Patagonian steppe.
Shopping, souvenirs, meals and a moment of relaxation!
También los más pequeños tienen sus posibilidades de diversión con juegos y parques en consonancia con el ambiente marino.
Mientras los adultos pueden disfrutar de un paseo en el moderno paseo peatonal urbanizado en los últimos años, dándole un toque de mundanidad en medio de la estepada patagónica.

A last panoramic view from the dunes and cliffs to admire this magnificent wilderness and the ocean in all its immensity.
Patagonia is not only oil wells, natural gas, mountains, lakes and rivers of glacial origin. It also has these marvellous coasts that are frequented by more than half a million people a year, looking for a different kind of tourism, far from the hustle and bustle of the world.
Una última vista panorámica desde las dunas y los acantilados para admirar esta magnífica naturaleza salvaje y el océano en toda su inmensidad.
La Patagonia non son solo pozos de petróleo, gas natural, montañas, lagos y r1os de origen glaciar. También tiene estas maravillosas costas que son frecuentadas por más de medio millón de personas al año, buscando un tipo de turismo distinto, lejos del mundanal ruido.
