This is my entry to the Pinmapple Contest If I had $ 1000

What a tempting way to celebrate the thousandth edition of 1000 Travel digest has the folks from #Haveyoubeenhere and @pinmapple!

It makes us imagine the unimaginable in this difficult year! It is a great celebration strategy because it involves the sense of pleasure in its most joyous part, the imaginative part.

Here I am lovingly leaving my contribution to this celebration.

If I had 1000 dollars I would not think twice about it, I would dedicate it to fulfill my dream of visiting some of the oldest monuments in Europe. Naturally it would start with Stonehenge.

¡Nos pone a imaginar lo inimaginable en este año tan difícil! Es una gran estrategia de celebración porque involucra el sentido del placer en su parte más gozosa, la imaginativa.

Si yo tuviera 1000 dólares no lo pensaría dos veces los dedicaría a cumplir mi sueño de visitar algunos de los monumentos más antiguos de Europa. Naturalmente comenzaría por Stonehenge.

Why Stonehenge without hesitation? Because for me it represents, at the same time as a great mystery (as it has been for laymen and scientists since it was known), a great evidence of what humans can achieve forever.

It is no longer possible, as before, to walk among menhirs, touch them and look at the holes in the ground where the remains of people were buried, or admire what anthropologists believe was a sacrificial stone, or the incomprehensible crowned menhirs; but it is still a magnificent aspiration to be able to be in body and soul in a place that includes more than five thousand years of history.

In my dream I must be in England by the middle of June. There is a lot to see in England, especially if we talk about museums that are a passion for me, but the objective of the date is to be able to travel the day before the summer solstice two hours away, towards Salisbury, in the county of Wiltshire to be there at the monument at dawn on the starting day of the longest day of the year.

¿Por qué Stonehenge sin dudarlo? Porque para mí representa a la vez que un gran misterio (como lo ha sido para legos y científicos desde que se le conoce) una gran evidencia de lo que los humanos podemos lograr desde siempre.

Ya no es posible como anteriormente caminar entre los megalitos de quince toneladas, tocarlos y asomarse a las perforaciones en la tierra donde se guardaron los restos de personas o admirar lo que los antropólogos creen que fue una piedra sacrificial, o los incomprensibles menhires coronados, pero sigue siendo una aspiración magnífica poder estar en cuerpo y alma en un sitio que recoge más de cinco mil años de historia.

En mi sueño debo estar en Inglaterra para mediados de junio, hay mucho que ver en Inglaterra, sobre todo si hablamos de museos que son una pasión para mí, pero el objetivo de la fecha es poder desplazarme el día anterior al solsticio de verano a dos horas de distancia, hacia Salisbury, en el condado de Wiltshire para estar allí en el monumento en el amanecer del día de inicio del día más largo del año.

There are many theories around the function and significance of Stonehenge. The evidence says that it was used, in addition to the religious functions, as an astronomical observatory since the sun's rays cross the axis of the construction at dawn of the summer solstice, illuminating it and indicating the initial moment in which the days begin to be more long than the night. That single evidence connects me with a feeling of celebration, of celebration of the sun and of life, therefore, that unites me with my fellow men throughout the history of humanity, so it would be the greatest celebration for me to feel that I join that party at Stonehenge like many people do annually.

Hay muchas teorías alrededor de la función y de la significación de Stonehenge. La evidencia dice que se utilizó, además de las funciones religiosas, como observatorio astronómico ya que los rayos del sol atraviesan el eje de la construcción al amanecer del solsticio de verano, iluminándolo e indicando el momento inicial en el que los días comienzan a ser más largos que la noche. Esa sola evidencia me conecta con un sentimiento de fiesta, de celebración del sol y de la vida, por ende, que me une a mis congéneres a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, por lo que sería la mayor fiesta para mí sentir que me uno a esa fiesta en stonehenge como lo hace anualmente mucha gente.

Si yo tuviera mil dolares los dedicaría en su mayoría a posibilitar ese día completo, a visitar el complejo, a seguir la trayectoria del sol hasta el atardecer, para caminar los tres kilómetros que separan Woodhenge de Stonehenge y mirar cómo el sol se despide ese día, atravesando el eje central de este otro antiquísimo monumento, que en sus inicios fue de madera y cuyos hitos se hayan ahora marcados en concreto. En Woodhenge, según los descubrimientos arqueológicos, se efectuaba el gran festín de ese importante día de la tierra.

As you will see, it is possible to spend the thousand dollars without leaving England. The round trip ticket could be close to $ 800 on a cheap flight from Venezuela. Of course I would stay in Avebury for a few days to visit each and every one of the settings where we have lived, as a human species, from such early times.

When UNESCO declared Stonehenge a World Heritage Site (in all its breadth, what has been discovered and what has not, with the mystery that has not yet been elucidated and that may never be clarified) it gave us a certainty as a species: The We humans have been capable of great feats, incomprehensible, magnificent, but we have not yet won the small struggles that separate us, although we advance step by step. The immense weight, the intelligence displayed there, and the strength of the stones tell us that we will be able to achieve what we set out to do.

Como verán es posible gastar los mil dólares sin salir de Inglaterra. El pasaje ida y vuelta podría estar ceca de 800 dólares en un vuelo barato desde Venezuela. La entrada a Stonehenge, que antes era libre, ahora está en el orden de unas 20 libras esterlinas, alrededor de 16 dolares. El pasaje ida y vuelta desde Londres hasta Stonehenge cuesta cerca de 40 dólares. por supuesto que me quedaría unos días en Avebury para visitar todos y cada uno de los escenarios donde hemos vivido, como especie, desde tiempos tan iniciales.

Cuando la UNESCO declaró Stonehenge Patrimonio de la Humanidad (en toda su amplitud, lo que se ha descubierto y lo que no, con el misterio que aún no se ha dilucidado y que tal vez nunca se aclare) nos dio una certeza como especie: Los humanos hemos sido capaces de realizar grandes hazañas, incomprensibles, magníficas, pero aún no hemos ganado las pequeñas luchas que nos separan, aunque avancemos paso a paso. Generally, in our culture we celebrate Saint John's Day, which coincides with the beginning of the summer solstice and which in our latitudes is a feast between sacred and profane at the same time. I imagine their faces when I tell them that, indeed, I am celebrating the summer solstice in the most appropriate place in the world.

Generalmente, en nuestra cultura celebramos el día de San Juan, que coincide con el inicio del solsticio de verano y que en nuestras latitudes es una fiesta entre sagrada y profana a la vez. Cuando llega el mes de junio mis amigos bromean conmigo indefectiblemente...La broma consiste en preguntarme si estaré disponible ese día o si estaré en... Stonehenge.

Imagino sus caras cuando les diga que, efectivamente, estoy celebrando el solsticio de verano en el lugar más apropiado del mundo.
