(ESP/ENG) Una salida a Caracas: Buscando helado, llegamos a Conos Praga.

Resulta que tengo una amiga en la ciudad, necesitaba que le acompañara a hacer algunas cosas y por coincidencia nos hemos visto los días jueves así que quizá conozcamos un lugar agradable cada jueves. El día que te quiero comentar nos encontramos en Altamira, tomamos algunas fotos en la plaza y tuvimos una anécdota simpática con una chica que se nos acercó pidiéndonos unas fotos.

It turns out that I have a friend in the city, she needed me to accompany her to do some things and by coincidence we have seen each other on Thursdays so maybe we know a nice place every Thursday. The day I want to tell you about we met in Altamira, we took some pictures in the square and we had a nice anecdote with a girl who approached us asking for some pictures.

Mi amiga había ido al oftalmólogo, tenía la pupila dilatada así que no era la mejor opción para tomarle las fotos, la chica me permitió su celular, mi amiga le sostuvo el bolso y se le tomaron varias fotos en las letras de “Yo (corazón ) chacao”. De hecho, había alguien tomándose fotos en la “O”, me le acerqué y le pregunté si se podía retirar un momentico porque la chica quería una foto con todo el letrero, a lo que muy amablemente me dijo que sí.

My friend had gone to the ophthalmologist, she had a dilated pupil so it was not the best option to take pictures, the girl allowed me her cell phone, my friend held her purse and several pictures were taken in the letters of "Yo (heart) chacao". In fact, there was someone taking pictures on the "O", I approached her and asked her if she could leave for a moment because the girl wanted a picture with the whole sign, to which she very kindly said yes.

La chica de las fotos aparentemente quedó satisfecha y agradecida porque tenía 6 años sin venir a Venezuela, andaba sola recorriendo sus calles. Ya sabes, si alguien que te genera buenas vibras, te pide que le tomes unas fotos en la calle y te parece un lugar seguro, puedes acceder y ayudar a alguien que solamente quiere llevarse un recuerdo.

The girl in the photos was apparently satisfied and grateful because she had not come to Venezuela for 6 years, she was alone walking the streets. You know, if someone who gives you good vibes, asks you to take some pictures in the street and it seems a safe place, you can agree and help someone who just wants to take a souvenir.

Ahora bien, yo te venía a contar sobre el lugar a donde fuimos a merendar y cómo fue que fue que yo supe de él. Hace varios meses que venía queriendo probar esa versión de helados en donde la galleta tiene forma de pez o es un cono con algún sabor particular. Resulta que hace unas semanas atrás pasé por La Pecera Ccs que está ubicada comenzando Las Mercedes, al lado del CVA y estaba todo muy bonito pero exactamente ese día tenían la máquina fallando así que podías disfrutar del helado más no del cono en forma de pez, a mi me llamaba la atención era lo del pez así que me conformé con ver su local nada más y volver en alguna otra ocasión. (Aún lo tengo pendiente)

Now, I was coming to tell you about the place where we went to have a snack and how I found out about it. For several months I have been wanting to try that version of ice cream where the cookie is shaped like a fish or a cone with a particular flavor. It turns out that a few weeks ago I went to La Pecera Ccs which is located at the beginning of Las Mercedes, next to the CVA and it was all very nice but exactly that day the machine was down so you could enjoy the ice cream but not the fish-shaped cone, my attention was drawn to the fish so I settled for just seeing the place and come back another time (I still havet pending).

Unos días después, una amiga que había ido a La Pecera me comentó que por Altamira había una heladería con un concepto “similar” llamada Conos Praga y ya que andábamos por ahí, fue preguntarle si le apetecía un helado y ella accedió. Te comento que el local queda dos cuadras debajo de la plaza Francia (cerca de la Torre Británica), llegamos ahí caminando y si vas en carro en su cuenta de instagram publicaron un vídeo donde te indica el recorrido que debes hacer, es bastante sencillo pero hay que estar pendiente porque es un local pequeño y puede que pase un poco desapercibido pero tiene la ventaja de que podrás estacionar sin inconvenientes.

A few days later, a friend who had been to La Pecera told me that in Altamira there was an ice cream shop with a "similar" concept called Conos Praga and since we were walking around there, I asked her if she wanted an ice cream and she agreed. I tell you that the place is two blocks below the Plaza Francia (near the British Tower), we got there walking and if you go by car on their instagram account they published a video where they show you the route you should take, it is quite simple but you have to be aware because it is a small place and may go a little unnoticed but it has the advantage that you can park without inconvenience.

Antes de ingresar al local, nos encontramos con un menú en físico y ahí pudimos evaluar cual nos llamaba la atención. Hay mucho vidrio para que puedas apreciar cómo trabajan la masa de lo que posteriormente será tu cono, el lugar huele a canela, fue lo que más nos atrajo porque es un olor que te embriaga, nos decidimos quedar principalmente por el aroma. El caballero que amasa y le da la forma al cono es quien te recibe porque su lugar de trabajo está justo entrando al local. La decoración destaca por unos hermosos cuadros de Praga, se siente muy acogedor y agradable además de que cuenta con buen hilo musical.

Before entering the place, we found a physical menu and there we could evaluate which one caught our attention. There is a lot of glass so you can appreciate how they work the dough of what will later be your cone, the place smells like cinnamon, it was what attracted us the most because it is a smell that intoxicates you, we decided to stay mainly because of the aroma. The gentleman who kneads and shapes the cone is the one who welcomes you because his workplace is right at the entrance of the place. The decoration stands out for its beautiful Praga paintings, it feels very cozy and pleasant and it also has a good piped music.

En el menú tienen opciones diversas, como el cono sencillo que solamente son los dos sabores de helado más una moneda de chocolate oscuro, cono clásico al que le agregan sirope de Hershey’s, hay otros con cobertura en el cono de nutella o arequipe y como si faltara sabor también les pueden agregar toppings como pirulin, samba, oreo, brownie o rellenarlo de fresas con crema chantilly. Adicional también cuentan con tinitas de helado, malteadas, bowls y si se te antojan para un evento los tienen en versión mini.

In the menu they have different options, such as the simple cone that is only the two flavors of ice cream plus a dark chocolate coin, classic cone to which they add Hershey's syrup, there are others with nutella or arequipe topping on the cone and as if it lacked flavor they can also add toppings such as pirulin, samba, oreo, brownie or fill it with strawberries with whipped cream. In addition, they also have ice cream tubs, milkshakes, bowls and if you are craving for an event they have them in mini version.

Nosotras pedimos un cono sencillo con dos sabores, recuerdo que pedimos fresa y crema real. En primera instancia considerábamos comprar uno para cada una pero en cuanto nos mostraron el primero, dijimos que con ese sería suficiente para ambas. Nos gustó un poco más el de crema real porque si has probado la paleta ese helado te emulará aquel recuerdo.

We ordered a single cone with two flavors, I remember we asked for strawberry and real cream. At first we were considering buying one for each of us but as soon as they showed us the first one, we said that would be enough for both of us. We liked the real cream one a little more because if you have tried the palette that ice cream will emulate that memory.

No tuvimos que esperar para ser atendidas porque era jueves tipo 1pm así que no coincidimos con la multitud sino que contábamos con el local para nosotras nada más, de lo contrario puede que nos diera algo de pena tomarle fotos al helado o al lugar en general. Me gustaría destacar que la masa del cono no tiene un sabor que recuerde de alguna otra receta pero se asemeja más a un pan que a la usual galleta de una barquilla. La misma está cubierta de azúcar y canela lo cual realza su sabor porque la masa no es particularmente dulce así que resulta bastante equilibrado.

We did not have to wait to be served because it was Thursday at 1pm so we did not coincide with the crowd but we had the place to ourselves, otherwise we might have been a little embarrassed to take pictures of the ice cream or the place in general. I would like to point out that the dough of the cone does not have a flavor reminiscent of any other recipe but it is more like a bread than the usual cookie from a waffle. It is covered with sugar and cinnamon which enhances its flavor because the dough is not particularly sweet so it is quite balanced.

Según la información que encontramos en el local el cono lleva por nombre “Trdelnik” y es un pastel tradicional de la cocina Eslovaca que se ha popularizado en las calles de Praga en la Republica Checa. Su receta es originaria de la región ubicada entre Rumania y Hungria donde se le conoce como Chimney cake (pastel de chimenea) por su forma cilíndrica, la cual se logra al enrollar la masa dulce en un “Trdlo” (cilindro de madera especial de la región) y de rostizarlos mientras gira sobre si misma muy lentamente, otorgándole un ligero sabor amaderado, aromatizado con canela.

According to the information we found in the store, the cone is called "Trdelnik" and is a traditional cake of Slovak cuisine that has become popular in the streets of Prague in the Czech Republic. Its recipe originates from the region located between Romania and Hungary where it is known as Chimney cake because of its cylindrical shape, which is achieved by rolling the sweet dough in a "Trdlo" (special wooden cylinder of the region) and roasting it while it turns on itself very slowly, giving it a light woody flavor, flavored with cinnamon.

El lugar se presta para ir una tarde a conversar mientras comparten un helado, nos atendieron muy bien y aunque el local es algo pequeño está todo cuidado así que te inspira a tomar fotos y disfrutar el rato. Para una futura ocasión me gustaría probar el de cobertura de Nutella con helado de chocolate y pistacho o la opción de chantilly con fresas, puede que las merengadas también estén buenas pero quiero volver para probar otros sabores.

The place lends itself to go one afternoon to chat while sharing an ice cream, we were very well attended and although the place is a bit small it is all taken care of so it inspires you to take pictures and enjoy the time. For a future occasion I would like to try the Nutella topping with chocolate and pistachio ice cream or the chantilly option with strawberries, maybe the meringues are also good but I want to go back to try other flavors.
