"Birongo pueblo de gozo" es lo primero que oirás de la voz de sus habitantes. Una tierra escondida entre las montañas de Higuerote en el estado Miranda en la zona costeña de Venezuela.
"Birongo pueblo de gozo" is the first thing you will hear from the voice of its inhabitants. A land hidden among the mountains of Higuerote in the state of Miranda in the coastal area of Venezuela.
¿Qué hace particularmente distinta a esta zona de otras en Venezuela? Podría decir tantas pero, en este post me limitaré a comentarles del viaje que hice en el año 2019 como parte de un proyecto conjunto entre la Sinfónica Ayacucho y la fundación EPOSAK. Un viaje de íntegra y recopilación de música, enseñanza y exploración. Un viaje junto a mi querido amigo y hermano @alejandroaldana
What makes this area particularly different from others in Venezuela? I could say so many but, in this post I will limit myself to tell you about the trip I made in 2019 as part of a joint project between the Ayacucho Symphony and the EPOSAK foundation. A trip of integrity and compilation of music, teaching and exploration.
¿Pero además del viaje, qué cómo puedo describir mi experiencia? En una palabra: Mágica.
But besides the trip, how can I describe my experience? In one word: Magical.
Desde que llegamos luego de un viaje de 3 horas por carretera y luego remontando los muy maltratados caminos en la montaña llegamos a una comunidad donde lo primero que puedes percibir es que te has quedado completamente sin señal telefónica. Una desgracia para muchos, una bendición para otros.
From the moment we arrived after a 3 hour road trip and then up the battered mountain roads we arrived in a community where the first thing you notice is that you are completely without a phone signal. A misfortune for many, a blessing for others.
Estuve una semana en este sector lleno de tierras extremadamente fértiles, ríos llenos de vida, magia en el ambiente y un ritmo en la sangre que se transmite entre todos los lugareños. El sonido del Culo e' puya, El resonar de los diferentes Quitiplás y el cantar de la Fulia están en todo habitante.
A week in this sector full of extremely fertile lands, rivers full of life, magic in the atmosphere and a rhythm in the blood that is transmitted among all the locals. The sound of the Culo e' puya, the resounding of the different Quitiplás and the singing of the Fulia are in every inhabitant.
El quitiplás es una serie de instrumentos creados con bambú cortado en tamaños específicos los cuales reciben diferentes nombres de acuerdo a su sonido. El Culo e´puya es como se le llama a un tipo de tambor alargado que tambien tiene un nombre distinto de acuerdo a su tamaño y la Fulía es un ritmo o estilo musical típico de la costa venezolana.
The quitiplás is a series of instruments created with bamboo cut in specific sizes which receive different names according to their sound. The Culo e'puya is the name given to a type of elongated drum that also has a different name according to its size and the Fulía is a rhythm or musical style typical of the Venezuelan coast.
La energía acompaña cada alma que ha vivido entre los cantos que se llevan al trabajo, la hermosa vista de los morros y colinas que se pueden divisar a las distancias mientras en algún lugar alguna alma caritativa prepara deliciosos dulces de platano llamados Cafungas.
The energy accompanies every soul that has lived among the songs that are taken to work, the beautiful view of the hills and hills that can be seen in the distance while somewhere some charitable soul prepares delicious banana sweets called Cafungas.
Eso, mis amigos es Birongo. Una tierra llena de misticismo, maravillas, encantos que te atrapan y no te dejarán ir si así lo desean, y música, oh si, mucha música que emana en cada esquina aún si el sol está alto y abrumador.
That, my friends, is Birongo. A land full of mysticism, wonders, charms that catch you and will not let you go if they want to, and music, oh yes, lots of music that emanates from every corner even if the sun is high and overwhelming.
Ríos llenos de peces, frutos en cada camino y al alcance de tú mano. Qué sensación de alivio es poder bañarse en esas aguas luego de un día de trabajo y de andar entre caminos llenos de naturaleza circundante, donde el cantar de aves solo es opacado por los sonidos de la brisa y el chocar de los machetes en su labor diaria mientras que en el pueblo las más diversas actividades y negocios mantienen viva la zona.
Rivers full of fish, fruits in every path and at your fingertips. What a feeling of relief to be able to bathe in those waters after a day of work and walking among roads full of surrounding nature, where the singing of birds is only overshadowed by the sounds of the breeze and the clash of machetes in their daily work while in town the most diverse activities and businesses keep the area alive.
Pero algo que no he mencionado, su cacao. Qué maravilla escondida y valorada por estas maravillosas personas. Un tesoro único que sin dudas es una muestra de lo rica que es la zona. Un paraíso entre las montañas lleno de ritmo, Fulia y sabor.
But something I have not mentioned, its cocoa. What a wonder hidden and valued by these wonderful people. A unique treasure that undoubtedly is a sign of how rich the area is. A paradise in the mountains full of rhythm, Fulia and flavor.
