Modular Festival im alten Gaswerk

Am Pfingstwochenende fand in Augsburg das Modular Festival statt.
Das erste mal wurde 2009 in Augsburg das Festival veranstaltet. Der Stadtjugendring versuchte lokale Bands zu engagieren um in Augsburg für unsere Jugendlichen ein Festival zu organisieren.
Zunächst war das ganze im Wittelsbacher Park, fast im Zentrum von Augsburg. Ich selber habe es damals nicht wirklich registriert, da das Thema Jungend für mich damals schon mit 34 Jahren nicht mehr wirklich präsent war. Wenn man Wacken und Chiemsee Summer kennt, kann Augsburg da ja eigentlich nur verlieren.
Über die Jahre hinweg ist das ganze immer grösser geworden und als bei uns der Gaskessel als Veranstaltungsarea eröffnet wurde, wechselte das ganze 2019 auf dieses neue Gelände.
Corona hat das ganze für zwei Jahre ausgebremst und jetzt startete es mit voller Wucht durch.
Letztes Jahr waren rund 27 000 Besucher dort und die Veranstalter entschieden, das ganze für 2023 noch etwas zu vergrößern.
Für drei Tage waren täglich 11 000 Tickets im verkauf und die waren auch restlos ausverkauft.
Also ein Minimum von 33 000 Besuchern waren wohl vor Ort.
Ich bin jetzt 46 Jahre jung und meine Festival Zeit ist eigentlich vorbei. Zumindest als Besucher bin ich nicht mehr so aktiv auf diesen Veranstaltungen. Da wir aber Partnerhotel dieser Veranstaltung sind, und ein großer Teil der Bands bei uns übernachtete, haben wir uns das Spektakel am Freitag mal angesehen.
Wow, wir waren beeindruckt, was der Stadtjugendring hier auf die Beine gestellt hat.
Das ganze sollte mit dem großen Thema Nachhaltigkeit stattfinden. Also nur vegetarische Buden. Einwegverpackungen sollten extrem reduziert werden.
Als Bands wurden deutsche Bands eingeladen, vorzugsweise aus der Region. Die Headline Bands kamen allerdings aus ganz Deutschland.
Ich kannte keine davon. Die meisten sind wohl eher auf Youtube unterwegs, und das bin ich eher weniger.
Es wurden auch kurzfristig ein paar Bands und Künstler wieder ausgeladen, da sie im Vorfeld wohl nicht wirklich zu dem Thema des Stadtjugendringes in Augsburg passten.
Zu viele Drogen oder Auftritte auf rechts extremen Veranstaltungen sind ein NoGo. Ein Künstler wurde erst zwei Tage vor seinem Auftritt ausgeladen.
Respekt. Sowas muss man erstmal als Festival Veranstalter durchziehen.
Zurück zum Festival.
Das ganze fand wie gesagt auf dem Alten Gaswerk Gelände in Augsburg statt.
Als wir dort waren, ging es erst gerade los und es waren Anfangs noch nicht so viel Gäste auf dem Gelände. Das änderte sich aber von Minute zu Minute.
Neben den zwei Hauptbühnen, gab es noch eine etwas kleinere Bühne mit DJ. Die Club Bühne.
Mitten drin gab es auch noch einen Biergarten.
Das war die Mainstage. Beeindruckend. Man merkte auch, dass es langsam voller wurde.
Etwas abseits gab es sogar noch eine Schaukel und ein paar kleine Attraktionen. Irgendwie wie ein Rummel.
Was ich richtig gut fand war, dass sie die Geschichte des Gaskessels zum Teil aufgegriffen hatten. Die Halle mit den alten Gaspumpen wurde als Wissenschaftsshowroom genutzt.
Als wir so mitten im Geschehen waren, viel mir plötzlich auf, woran man meine Generation erkennen konnte.
Ja klar, graue Haare und optisch ein bisschen Älter, aber der Stil, wie ich meine Klamotten trage und die jungen Leute heute, war ganz anders.
So gut wie jeder Ü40 Besucher hatte seinen Pulli oder seine Jacke um die Hüften gebunden. Nicht aber die Jungen Leute. Man trägt wohl diese Kleidungsstücke jetzt quer um die Brust.
Die von mir schon seit langem verbannten Tennissocken sind ein Muss in der heutigen Zeit.
Und ganz wichtig: Die Brusttasche, die in meiner Generation ein klares Symbol für spießige deutsche Touristen war, ist wieder In und wird meisten auch um die Brust getragen.
Und um das ganze noch zu toppen, läuft jeder mit Glitzer Schminke im Gesicht rum. Oft noch mit keinen Glassteinchen neben die Augenlieder geklebt.
Das war früher auch anders.
Alles in allem, merkt man, dass sich diese Generation ihren eigenen Stil aufgebaut hat. Unkonventionell und lässig.
Ein besonders Highlight war für mich die Rollerdisko in einem der alten Gastürme.
Danke an den Stadtjugendring in Augsburg. Das habt ihr wirklich gut gemacht.
The Modular Festival took place in Augsburg on the Whitsun weekend.
The first time the festival was held in Augsburg was in 2009. The Stadtjugendring tried to engage local bands to organise a festival in Augsburg for our young people.
At first, the whole thing was in Wittelsbacher Park, almost in the centre of Augsburg. I myself didn't really register it at the time, because the topic of youth was no longer really present for me at the age of 34. If you know Wacken and Chiemsee Summer, Augsburg can only lose.
Over the years, the whole thing has become bigger and bigger, and when the Gaskessel was opened as an event arena here, the whole thing moved to this new site in 2019.
Corona put the brakes on the whole thing for two years and now it took off with full force.
Last year there were around 27 000 visitors and the organisers decided to make it a bit bigger for 2023.
For three days, 11,000 tickets were sold daily and they were completely sold out.
So a minimum of 33,000 visitors were probably there.
I am 46 years young now and my festival time is actually over. At least as a visitor, I'm no longer so active at these events. But since we are the partner hotel of this event, and a large part of the bands stayed with us, we went to see the spectacle on Friday.
Wow, we were impressed by what the Stadtjugendring had put together here.
The whole thing was supposed to take place with the big theme of sustainability. So only vegetarian stalls. Disposable packaging was to be extremely reduced.
German bands were invited, preferably from the region. The headline bands, however, came from all over Germany.
I didn't know any of them. Most of them are probably more on Youtube, and that's rather less me.
A few bands and artists were also uninvited at short notice because they didn't really fit in with the theme of the Stadtjugendring in Augsburg.
Too many drugs or appearances at extreme right-wing events are a no-go. One artist was only uninvited two days before his performance.
Respect. You have to pull off something like that as a festival organiser.
Back to the festival.
As I said, the whole thing took place on the old Gaswerk site in Augsburg.
When we were there, it was just starting and there weren't so many guests on the site at the beginning. But that changed from minute to minute.
In addition to the two main stages, there was a slightly smaller stage with a DJ. The club stage.
There was also a beer garden in the middle of it.
This was the main stage. Impressive. You could also tell it was getting crowded.
A little bit aside there was even a swing and a few small attractions. Kind of like a carnival.
What I really liked was that they had picked up some of the history of the gas boiler. The hall with the old gas pumps was used as a science showroom.
When we were in the middle of the action, I suddenly noticed how my generation could be recognised.
Yes, of course, grey hair and visually a bit older, but the style, the way I wear my clothes and the young people today were completely different.
Just about every visitor over 40 had their jumper or jacket tied around their hips. But not the young people. I guess they wear these clothes crosswise around the chest now.
The tennis socks, which I had banned a long time ago, are a must in this day and age.
And very important: the breast pocket, which in my generation was a clear symbol of stuffy German tourists, is back in and most are also worn around the chest.
And to top it all off, everyone is walking around with glitter make-up on their faces. Often with no glass stones stuck next to the eyelids.
That was also different in the past.
All in all, you notice that this generation has built up its own style. Unconventional and casual.
A particular highlight for me was the roller disco in one of the old guest towers.
