Every year, March 10th in lunar calendar is our holiday to commemorate Hung Vuong's death anniversary. This year our holiday is on April 21st. We decided to take a motorbike trip to one of our friends' house in Que Son district, Quang Nam province. Que Son is a mountainous district located about 70km from Da Nang city. Although it took us about over 2 hours driving motorbike, but the trip was worth it because we arrived here in the right season of rice. Rice is almost the main dish we eat every day, however, not many of us directly grow and harvest rice plants. When we came here, we really understood how much effort the farmers put into each grain of rice. I really thank them for the rice I eat almost every day.
Driving on the small country roads, smelling the fragrant aroma of ripe rice and seeing the majestic beauty of the countryside are things we cannot do every day. We are fortunate to come here during the ripe rice season because the harvest usually lasts only 7-10 days. After that, the fields will be left with only barren rice stumps.
Most of us grew up in rice fields so when we came here, a lot of childhood memories came back. We told each other about our childhood days when we were little boys and girls with bare feet running through the fields to herd buffalo, fly kites, play hide and seek and catch fish,frogs, rats and crickets. Now we are all grown and already have jobs in the big city. But for sure, we will still return to places like this often to relive beautiful memories. We had a great day. The only thing we regret is that our time there was too short because we have to go back to the city to go to work in the next day.
