Enjoy a ride and a bunch of pictures from the area of Elounda. This is the north east part of the lovely island Crete.
This are the pictures from my first 2 days at Elounda village made by a long walk and a drive to the hills. Stay tuned for more...
The little Harbor
If you like some fresh seafood, this is a good place. Have a walk and stop by at one of the small restaurants and have your fresh dish in greek style.
The view from above
The village of Elounda is ideal for people who want to have a seaside holiday in a place which is neither too busy nor too isolated.
Elounda is a relaxing place by the sea.
A lot of rocks means good diving
See the coastline with mainly rocks and some little sandy beaches.
In Elounda you will find many small and pretty beaches. You may do a walk along the peninsula of Kolokytha where you may explore the many little villages in the hills far from the sea. Is seems to be a trip back in time.
Elounda is not for those looking for a hectic nightlife, nor for those who prefer the isolated beaches of southern Crete.
Elounda is a nice mix of different touristic attractions with good restaurants by the sea
Even if there are many luxury hotels, Elounda is not a priciest place. Overall hotels and food reasonable priced like those in the rest of Crete.
The view to Spinalonga
Spinalonga is a small island near Elounda, which is also known as the Leper Island. Lepers from Crete and the rest of Greece were quarantined at Spinalonga until 1957.
Nowadays many of tourists visit Spinalonga by boat from Agios Nikolaos, Elounda and Plaka.
A walking tour through the ruined buildings is a nice jump back in history.
A drive trough the hills
Jump in your car and drive to the hills, to the little villages and have a view to the nature and all the people who live here.
We met this 3 fellows
Back to the beach
The reward for the journey
Normally we say:The journey is the reward.
But today I added a local beer.
