LET ME TAKE YOU TO TAINAN, TAIWAN

The Home School Setup.png

I stayed in Taiwan for 6 months to study Mandarin so I had so much time to go around the beautiful country. The Chinese Language Center I went to is located in Tainan. It is the oldest city and the previous capital of Taiwan. Showing you just some of the places you can go when you decide to visit Tainan which is located at the South of Taiwan just before reaching Kaohsiung. You can ride the Taiwan High Speed Rail if you're coming from Taipei or Taoyuan Airport. 😊

CHIMEI MUSEUM

I haven't been to a lot of museums since we don't have much of that in my hometown, so when I visited this beautiful museum, I was in awe. They had different exhibition areas where displays were organized accordingly. They featured paintings, sculptures, musical instruments, ancient weapons, fossils and antiques. I have a lot of photos inside of the museum but I don't want to spoil you and show everything that's in there ofcourse. 😁 But I highly recommend to visit this place if you are the type of person who is fond of history and arts.

It would take a whole afternoon to appreciate this place. The area is quite big and I've seen groups of people, friends and families, come here in the afternoon to picnic. I really liked the architecture and interior of the building. It's clean and spacious inside, there are also several couches where we can rest. There are also shops where you can buy snacks or drinks and also souvenirs.

ANPING OLD FORT

The Chinese Language Center organized a field trip for us in one of the most visited tourist attraction in Tainan which was the Anping Old Fort because of its history, the tower as well as the beautfiul architecture. The Anping Old Fort was build by the Dutch for over ten years when they arrived in Taiwan to trade with the Chinese and other nearby Asian countries. There is a small museum there beside the tower that shows the things they traded such as potteries and plates, inforgraphics of how it looked during the 1600's when this was built, there is also a diorama showing how big the fortress is and how it looked like when it was still a small island.

ANPING TREE HOUSE

3 minute walk from the Anping Old Fort is the Anping Tree House which is called so because of the Banyan roots and branches that is continuously growing and covering the building. You can barely see the infrastructure in the first photo because of the roots hanging. It was once a trading company and a warehouse that exported sugar and camphor and eventually salt. They put in a platform where you can view the warehouse from the top which was really nice to appreciate the place more.

WUSHAN MACAQUE CONSERVATION AREA

This was my favorite experience! I was able to see A LOT of Macaques freely walking around the roads, hanging by the trees and on top of roofs of houses/shops in the mountain. It was a pretty long ride going up here in what they also call the Monkey Mountain because of the big population of Macaques. Visitors were allowed to feed and interact with them closely but still with caution as they can also be aggressive since they are wild animals.

You can buy the buckets of food there in the shop which were mostly bananas, watermelon and peanuts. In my picture, I was feeding them peanuts. Put in a few peanuts on your palm, reach out and patiently wait for the Macaque to get it from you. We also have to be careful because some Macaques fight over the food given to them. What I did was to equally distribute the food to the Macaques around me.

As I researched, it says that it is a privately owned land and the owner made this into a conservation area to give a protection to the Macaques living there. There is no admission fee to be paid, only the buckets of food if you want to feed them.

GARDEN NIGHT MARKET

Taiwan is also famous for the night markets which has interesting choices of food. There are also souvenir and general merchandise stores as well as arcade games which is a really fun place to bring your family and friends. It can get really crowded at dinner time so be sure to prepare yourself by putting your bag in front of you, have energy walking around and looking for a table, have the patience to wait in line, think fast when ordering and lastly, prepare your stomach for all the food we can try! 🤣

I was able to eat stinky tofu (which was supprisingly delicious, just don't get discouraged by the smell lol), oyster omelette (so good!), spicy horn snails (I'm not a fan 🤣) , sweet potato balls/taro balls (yummy snacks!), peanut ice cream (Love this!), dumplings/ xiao long bao (100% yummy), king trumpet mushroom (yummy!), milkteas (got to try them all)!

HUXINGSHAN PARK

I find this place really cute! If you are travelling here with family, I'm sure the kids would love this place because it is visually stimulating and can work on their imagination. It is a big park with differently themed displays. I made a post about this which You can read here.

Hope you enjoyed another set of tour in the beautiful Taiwan. My family as well as the field trips from the language center brought me to so many cool places that I couldn't find in my hometown. It was an awesome experience to learn about their culture and tour almost all of Taiwan's attractions. Have you been to these places? Which experience did you like most?

Let me take you to another adventure on my next post! Keep in touch! 😊
