On the night of October 4, 2011, coming from Madrid, Spain, my wife and I had landed at Paris Beauvais Airport, a small airport located 67 km from Paris and commonly used by low-cost international airlines from the European Union. After the check-in, we took the bus that would take us to the city, and in just over an hour's drive, we entered the majestic French capital. Guess what was the first thing we spotted? Yes, thanks to the lighting, the first thing we spotted in the distance was none other than the Eiffel Tower. We were thrilled, had arrived in the capital of love to enjoy our honeymoon.

Although our excitement was evident, we were really disoriented and somewhat nervous because the night had advanced. Luckily, during the trip, we had made contact with a Spanish couple who had friends in Paris and through them, we managed to get a cab and reach our final destination, the Hotel de Paris. The next morning we would find that the hotel was only a few steps away from the Port de Pantin metro station. 🤣

See the number of people around the Fountain of St. Michael. The neighborhood is home to the Sorbonne so in its streets, you get many students and restaurants sympathetic to the pockets of tourists.

Paris is world-renowned for harboring much history, but it is also considered the metropolis of love and glamour. The great works of the infrastructure of the ancient French monarchs that dance between Renaissance-style buildings and modernity are combined in a city that exalts the values of love in each of its corners and the Seine River is one of them. The following three photographs were taken from the top of the Eiffel Tower. From my point of view, the reasons why this stunning metropolis has been labeled the city of love are several. Let's start with the language. When I go on a trip to a place I try to learn as much as I can about the place, for that reason months before embarking on this beautiful trip, I decided to learn some French to be able to interact with our hosts. That is interesting because you start to get into the context of the place to visit and the truth is that this language is beautiful. The guttural cadence and rhythm in pronouncing each word are exquisite. Just feeling the euphoria of a bonjour in the morning, makes you feel alive.

At night the city seems to be more alive than during the day.
River Seine from the tourist boat. Strolling along the Seine was something we had to do, but to make it something really romantic, we decided to do it at night. In this picture, we can see the Eiffel Tower with its lighthouse lights that are a spectacle.

SAILING PARIS
Another characteristic aspect of romanticism in Paris is its infrastructure. Here the vast majority think of the Eiffel Tower and of course, I agree. Visiting this magnificent work of engineering is extraordinary and if you do it with your loved one, that is priceless. But I want to highlight another infrastructure that is a fundamental part of the city, not only because it is an excellent waterway, but also because it is an emblematic part of the city. For me, the Seine River is like the bloodstream of Paris because it fills it with life completely. The Seine is the perfect place to be with your significant other. Sailing through its waters and surrendering to romance, love, and adventure cannot be avoided.

View from the tour bus. One thing that was common during most of our stay was the cloudy and cold weather. The temperature ranged those days between 10 and 17 degrees Celsius. Typical weather for the autumn season and that's why the trees had such extraordinary colors. As several of the photographs are shown here, this one is also a composition. Note the offset in the bus railing almost to the middle of the image.
All Paris is visually a glamorous city mainly due to the architectural design of its buildings. Its bay windows cornices, characteristic ceilings, and chimneys transport you to that time of kings and lords where beauty was exalted. Men wore make-up and social refinement was very important. They spent countless sums of money to beautify everything. Something incredible is that gold is still used to renovate paintings, paint railings, and even domes like the one below these lines.

View of the Grand Palais and the Musée de l'Armée from the Eiffel Tower. This is a composition of four photographs. Here we can see the urban and architectural design of the city where the Seine gives life and romantic touch to the city. On the right side, the Museum of the Armory -Musée de l'Armée in French- stands out easily, where under the golden dome is the tomb of the emperor of France, Napoleon Bonaparte. Towards the other end, after crossing the Seine and surrounded by trees, you can see the characteristic roof of the Grand Palais or Grand Palace, in English. Another Historical Monument of France is part of the Champs Elysees.
It was almost impossible not to notice this waterway because every time we left the hotel for some place of interest, we would somehow or another run into it. Whether it was on the tour bus when we were strolling on foot through the streets or even when we climbed the Eiffel Tower. Each of the seven days we spent enjoying the glamorous and romantic magnetism of Paris we inexorably arrived at the banks of this river.

In this view you can see across the Seine part of the MO or Musée d'Orsay.
Of course, we will not cover the sun with a finger, it is well known that the waters of the Seine are not exactly pristine, but definitely, the way it was designed its channel and its architectural integration with the rest of the infrastructure of the city makes it very striking.
Zoom towards the Seine river from the Eiffel Tower. As the city is almost flat and by law, buildings can't be too tall, the Eiffel Tower becomes the highest site in the city. From there you can observe all of Paris from a very different angle. In the image above you can see how the Seine is an integral part of Parisian life. Even the riverbanks serve as parking lots, terminals, piers, or simply as walkways
Everywhere you can see countless boats of all sizes and for different uses, not only tourist boats move around there. There are also cargo vessels, maintenance vessels, and even personal and security transport vessels.
View of the Institut de France from the other side of the Seine. See how at the bottom there is a pier with boats ready to transport visitors. All along the Seine, there are all the logistics for tourists to admire and enjoy the historical wonders that the city has to offer.
By the way, Paris took on the challenge of cleaning up the river for the next Olympic Games in 2024. The idea is to be able to use the river to do some swimming events. Let's hope they can pull it off.

Pont des Arts. The bridge of the arts better known as the bridge of lovers is a World Heritage Site since 1975 by Unesco. Here we left a padlock that had our names on it and we regret not taking a photo of it. In 2015 that padlock was lost. That year the Parisian government decided to remove them because the weight was such that it threatened the structure and could cause an accident.
THE PADLOCK OF ETERNAL LOVE
This bridge is very significant for the city and for visitors. All couples who have been hit by Cupid's mischievous arrow come here to swear eternal love to each other. And the way they do it is by placing a padlock on the mesh of the railings that line the footbridge. Some even throw the key into the river, symbolizing that no one can undo this eternal love. That is what we did and I believe it is true because after 10 years of marriage I still feel the same way about my beautiful wife and even more so after she gave me such a beautiful family.

Border of the Seine River, under the Pont du Carrousel. This image is a composite of three photographs. Note that on the left side you can see that the back of the boat is blurred. This is because the focus of this photo on the left is in the foreground with my wife, but the rest of the composition to the right has the focus at infinity and you can see the difference. To give you an idea of where we were, the crosswalk behind the boat is the Pont des Arts that connects the Louvre Museum on the left side with the Institut de France on the right side. To take these photos we had gone down from the Quai François Mitterrand street to the cobblestone walkway that runs along the river and serves as a pier for boats.
From the tourist bus. In this image of the Seine you can see Parisian life. Although the photo is cropped you can see two women eating panini as they were probably commuting to work. Next to them is a Parisian book and art kiosk and on the river, a tourist boat is in full swing.
View from the Jena Bridge That beautiful afternoon we were on our way to the Eiffel Tower which although you can't see it in the photo is just across the bridge. Of all the days we were in Paris, that would be the only one that the sun king appeared to treat us to a spectacular twilight.
The truth is that almost everything in the city has its romantic aspect. There are so many sites that it would be very difficult to name them, but some of them are the Louvre Museum, the lush Versailles Gardens, the Moulin Rouge, the Arc de Triomphe, the Museum of Eroticism that is very spicy, its cobblestone streets and even French music does its thing. Even the metro, which despite its dark areas and the occasional urine-smelling place, has its charm.

Vista del Sena desde el segundo piso del autobús turístico. ¿Quién no se enamoraría paseando con esta vista? Atravesando el Puente de La Concordia –Pont de la Concorde en francés—. Al lado izquierdo se ve la Torre Eiffel y al lado derecho se puede distinguir parte del techo del Grand Palais en medio de los árboles.
Aunque nuestra emoción era evidente, estábamos realmente desorientados y algo nerviosos porque la noche había avanzado. Por suerte, durante el viaje habíamos hecho contacto con una pareja de españoles que tenían amigos en París y a través de ellos logramos conseguir taxi y llegar a nuestro destino final, el Hotel de Paris. A la mañana siguiente nos daríamos cuenta de que el hotel estaba a sólo unos pasos de la estación del metro de Port de Pantin. 🤣

París es reconocida mundialmente por albergar mucha historia, pero también se le considera la metrópolis del amor y del glamour. Las grandes obras de infraestructura de los antiguos monarcas franceses que danzan entre edificios de estilo renacentista y la modernidad se conjugan en una ciudad que enaltece los valores del amor en cada uno de sus rincones y el río Sena es uno de ellos. Las siguientes tres fotografías se tomaron desde la cumbre de la Torre Eiffel. Desde mi punto de vista, las razones de que esta impresionante metrópoli se le haya calificado como la ciudad del amor son varias. Empecemos por el idioma. Cuando voy de viaje a un sitio trato de aprender todo lo que pueda sobre el lugar, por esa razón meses antes de embarcarnos en este hermoso viaje, decidí aprender algo de francés para poder interactuar con nuestros anfitriones. Eso es interesante porque empiezas a entrar en contexto del sitio a visitar y la verdad es que este idioma es hermoso. La cadencia gutural y el ritmo al pronunciar cada palabra son esquisitas. Sólo sentir la euforia de un bonjour en la mañana, te hace sentir vivo.

En la noche la ciudad parece estar más viva que durante el día.
Río Sena desde el bote turístico. Pasear por el Sena era algo que debíamos hacer, pero para que fuera algo realmente romántico, decidimos hacerlo en la noche. En esta imagen podemos observar la Torre Eiffel con sus luces de faro que son un espectáculo.

NAVEGANDO PARÍS
Otro aspecto característico del romanticismo en París es su infraestructura. Aquí la gran mayoría piensa en la Torre Eiffel y por supuesto que estoy de acuerdo. Visitar esta magnífica obra de ingeniería es extraordinario y si lo haces con tu amad@, eso no tiene precio. Pero yo quiero resaltar otra infraestructura que es parte fundamental de la ciudad, no sólo porque es una excelente vía para el transporte marítimo, sino porque es una parte emblemática de la ciudad. Para mí, el Río Sena es como el torrente sanguíneo de París porque la llena de vida de largo a largo. El Sena es el sitio perfecto para estar con tu pareja. Navegar a través de sus aguas y rendirte al romance, al amor y a la aventura no se puede evitar.

Vista desde el el autobús turístico. Algo que fue común durante casi toda nuestra estadía fue el clima nublado y frío. La temperatura oscilaba esos días entre los 10 y 17 grados centígrados. Un clima típico de la estación otoñal y por eso los árboles tenían esos colores tan extraordinarios. Como varias de las fotografías mostradas aquí, ésta también es una composición. Nótese el desplazamiento en la baranda del autobús casi al medio de la imagen.
Toda París es visualmente una ciudad glamorosa debido principalmente al diseño arquitectónico de sus edificios. Sus vetanales, sus cornisas, sus techos y chimeneas característicos te transportan a aquella época de reyes y lores donde la belleza era exaltada. Los hombres se maquillaban y el refinamiento social era muy importante. Gastaban incontables sumas de dinero para embellecer todo. Algo increíble es que el oro se sigue usando para renovar pinturas, pintar rejas e incluso hasta domos como el que está debajo de estas líneas.

Vista del Grand Palais y el Musée de l’Armée desde la Torre Eiffel. Esta es una composición de cuatro fotografías. Aquí podemos observar el diseño urbano y arquitectónico de la ciudad donde el Sena le imprime vida y un toque romántico a la ciudad. Al lado derecho se destaca fácilmente el Museo de la Armería —Musée de l’Armée en francés— donde debajo de la cúpula dorada se encuentra la tumba del "pequeño cabo" apodo que los soldados le confirieron al emperador de Francia, Napoleón Bonaparte. Hacia el otro extremo, después de atravesar el Sena y rodeada de árboles se puede ver el techo característico del Grand Palais o Gran Palacio, en español. Otro Monumento Histórico de Francia que forma parte de los Campos Elíseos.
Fue casi imposible no darse cuenta de esta vía fluvial porque cada vez que salíamos del hotel hacia algún sitio de interés, de alguna u otra forma nos topábamos con ella. Ya sea en el autobús turístico, cuando paseábamos a pie por las calles o incluso cuando subimos a la Torre Eiffel. Cada uno de los siete días que estuvimos disfrutando del magnetismo glamoroso y romántico de París llegábamos inexorablemente a las riberas de este río.

En esta vista se puede ver al otro lado del Sena parte del MO o Museo d'Orsay .
Claro, tampoco vamos a tapar el sol con un dedo, es bien sabido que las aguas del Sena no son precisamente pristinas, pero definitivamente la forma como fue diseñado su cauce y su integración arquitectónica con el resto de la infraestructura de la ciudad la hacen muy llamativa.
Zoom hacia el río Sena desde la Torre Eiffel. Como la ciudad es casi llana y por ley los edificios no pueden ser muy altos, la Torre Eiffel se convierte en el sitio más alto de la ciudad. Desde allí puedes observar todo París desde un ángulo muy distinto. En la imagen de arriba pueden ver como el Sena es parte integral de la vida parisina. Incluso las riberas del río sirven de estacionamientos, terminales, muelles o simplemente como caminerías.
Por dóquier se pueden observar innumerables embarcaciones de todos los tamaños y para distintos usos, no sólo las embarcaciones turísticas se desplazan por allí. También existen navíos de carga, de mantenimiento e incluso para transporte personal y de seguridad.
Vista del Instituto de Francia desde el otro lado del Sena. Vean como en la parte de abajo hay un muelle con embarcaciones listas para el transporte de los visitantes. A lo largo de todo el Sena existe toda la logística para que los turistas puedan admirar y disfrutar de las maravillas históricas que reúne la ciudad.
Por cierto, París asumió el reto de limpiar el río para los próximos Juegos olímpicos de 2024. La idea es que se pueda usar el río para hacer algunas pruebas de nado. Esperemos que lo puedan lograr.

Pont des Arts. El puente de las artes mejor conocido como el puente de los enamorados es Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1975 por la Unesco. Aquí dejamos un candado que tenía nuestros nombres y lamentamos no haberle tomado foto. En 2015 ese candado se perdió. Ese año el gobierno parisino decidió quitarlos porque el peso era tal que atentaba con la estructura y podía provocar un accidente.
EL CANDADO DEL AMOR ETERNO
Este puente es muy significativo para la ciudad y para los visitantes. Todas las parejas que han sido alcanzadas por la traviesa flecha de Cupido vienen aquí a jurarse amor eterno. Y la forma de hacerlo es colocando un candado en la malla de las barandas que bordean la pasarela. Algunos incluso lanzan la llave al río lo que simboliza que nadie puede deshacer ese amor eterno. Eso fue lo que hicimos nosotros y creo que es verdad porque después de 10 años de matrimonio aún siento lo mismo por mi hermosa esposa e incluso más después de haberme regalado tan bella familia.

Borde del río Sena, bajo el Pont du Carrousel. Esta imagen es una composición de tres fotografías. Nótese que al lado izquierdo se puede ver que la parte trasera de la embarcación se ve borrosa. Esto es debido a que el foco de esta foto de la izquierda se encuentra en primer plano con mi esposa, pero el resto de la composición hacia la derecha tiene el foco al infinito y se puede ver la diferencia. Para que tengan una idea del sitio donde nos encontrábamos, el paso peatonal que se ve detrás de la embarcación es el Puente de las Artes que comunica al Museo de Louvre al lado izquierdo con el Instituto de Francia al lado derecho. Para tomar estás fotos habíamos bajado desde la calle Quai François Mitterrand a la caminería empedrada que bordea el río y que sirve de muelle para las embarcaciones.
Desde el autobús turístico. En esta imagen del Sena se puede apreciar la vida parisina. Aunque la foto está recortada se puede ver a dos mujeres comiendo panini mientras se desplazaban probablemente hacia el trabajo. Al lado de ellas un kiosco de libros y arte parisino y en el río un bote turístico en plena marcha.
Vista desde el Puente de Jena. Esa hermosa tarde íbamos camino a la Torre Eiffel que aunque no se ve en la foto se encuentra al cruzar el puente. De todos los días que estuvimos en París, ese sería el único que el rey sol apareció para regalarnos un espectacular crepúsculo.
Lo cierto es que casi todo en la ciudad tiene su aspecto romántico. Son tantos sitios que sería muy difícil nombrarlos, pero algunos de ellos son el Museo de Louvre, los exhuberantes Jardines de Versalles, el Moulin Rouge, el Arco del Triunfo, el Museo del Erotismo que es muy picante, sus calles empedradas y hasta la música francesa hace lo suyo. Incluso el metro que a pesar de sus áreas oscuras y uno que otro sitio con olor a orine, tiene su encanto.
