The Pathfinder Cherry: A Hike to Mt. Pimmayong

Brown and Green Scrapbook Travel Photo Collages.jpg

We were traveling and experiencing adventures to unknown lands and places, fuelling a desire for exploration. There are unusual things that we thought we could not do because of our uncertainties and insecurities.

Growing up, I never imagined myself taking a path toward daring adventures, especially hiking and mountain climbing. But perfect timing poked me to remind me that I should, at least, be courageous in embracing a journey of exploring more of what’s beyond my eyes. It should be the starting point of having the combination of boldness and livingness within me.

Upon possessing the mindset that I only live once, it made me crave more adventures. Let me share my experience of combing Mount Pimmayong in Zambales, Philippines. Join me as I reminisce on my journey a few years back.

It was last year, 2021, when we planned on mountain climbing. The community quarantines were still ongoing, so we had to ask for consent from the town’s tourism management. We paid environmental fees and got our permit to go out of the border.

Since it would take us almost three hours of hiking and trekking, we set a meet-up around 5:00 in the morning on that day. I had my backpack full of necessities and other pieces of stuff. Also, I asked one of my closest friends to come with us since she loves hiking.

We all began to take our first walks when we all got together. We had to pass through a rice field and a river. We took advantage of the sunlight and made sure to have our photos captured. We planned the trip ahead of time, but some people canceled joining us because of conflicts in schedule.

We were the power of seven people. You could see that we consisted of mostly men, and it was part of the plan. Adventures like this are scary, especially if you are a first-timer. So, I asked my partner to look and invite more of his guy friends – for protection and strength.

Since I am into photography, I requested a solo shot while the sun kisses my skin. The sunrise went to say hello to us before we could see the trails on the way up. As soon as we found the pathway, we decided to rest and get ourselves ready for the real challenge and adventure – going up to the mountain.

I cannot remember the exact number of hours it took us before finally witnessing the beauty of Mount Pimmayong and the scenic view around it. The sweats, deep breaths and tiredness paid off when we set foot on the top of the mountain. It was a jaw-dropping moment, and we forgot the challenges we had to go through.

Each of us got our eyes fixed on the spectacular landscape. We felt the sensation while looking at the unique creation from God – nature. The greenery surrounding it made it more relaxing and calming. Seeing the mountain ranges from the top got us astonished and mesmerized. We realized one thing – the province of Zambales is a paradise we must protect.

We ate our lunch right after we got over with being enchanted by the beauty of Mount Pimmayong. We got our packed lunch and enjoyed the moment of enjoying good food from a scenic view. Of course, we could not forget to take pictures. And I took advantage of the chance to achieve great shots for remembrance and collection.

Every time I try to remember this once-in-a-lifetime journey, I feel grateful because I can share an adventure story with people – like what I did today on this blog. I can feel the satisfaction of my thirst for pleasure and leisure whenever I remember the days I went on daring experiences. Again, it was an incredible journey worth the documentation and story-telling.
