My first trip to Tenerife visiting the Teide and a day of teaching

Many years ago I visited the Canary Islands to visit my aunt. The year was 2009. We were all younger

I remember that I bought my first camera on the island and went out to take pictures visiting must-see places on this island such as the town of Candelaria with its beautiful basilica.

Nearby, the sculptural ensemble of the Menceyes has always fascinated me and is a must for me on every visit to the island.

These aboriginal Canarian kings/warriors defended the island until it was conquered by the Spanish crown. I was curious to rescue these photos from 2009 and see how one of the warriors armed with a spear in his hand. In this snapshot it looks like he has a bird on his head when in truth it is part of the spear.

In Candelaria the day was sunny, but you could see the fog in the nearby mountains, making it impossible to see the great Teide.

**Will there be fog on Teide? **

That was a question I asked myself and I decided to drive up to the volcano finding fog on the road while the temperature dropped from 20 degrees at sea level to 0 degrees on the ascent.

my entry to Qurator Photo Quest: fog organized by @qurator

The ascent was dangerous, there was some ice on the road and the fog was dense at times, but also allowed a glimmer of hope to see clearings through which the sun entered.

The outcome was perfect, being able to reach the national parador and contemplate in person the Teide in 2009 for the first time in my life.

To return home, I went down the Orotava valley until I reached the entrance of Santa Cruz de Tenerife where its peculiar auditorium is a special attraction.

But undoubtedly, this small castle next to the auditorium is a special place for me. Since the stories of the battles in defense of the island from this castle to prevent the invasion of the English crown is all endless emotions.

Greetings.
