Hello everyone!!!
I hope you are well or are trying to be well. I don't know if you ask about me, but I'm better. There are some worrying issues every now and then, but nothing seems to be a problem at the moment. Except for a bloody toothache. I think I'll be dealing with that for a couple of weeks.
Now we are going to Smyrna in this week's From All Over Türkiye series.
If I remember correctly, @incublus had been here before and I think I mentioned that I wanted to go one day. Sorry I'm too lazy to find that post 😂
Anyway. Even if that's not the case, I've fulfilled a dream. Not bad, right?
Before making the entrance to the Ancient City of Smyrna, I would like to talk about a tiny place we came across. I'm not sure if we actually made the entrance where it should be, but we came across some pretty nice things.
There is necessary information in the photos above. Before proceeding further inside, another information board appeared in front of me.
As you can see, the Basilica has 2 floors including the basement. Now I will show you a photo of how the Basilica looks from the top and then I will add a few photos of how fascinating the basement is.
Looks pretty organised and solid, doesn't it?
This is what it looks like from below. Isn't it mesmerising? I like it a lot. I like things that are close, if not symmetrical. By the way, it was quite humid in here. I don't want to think about my hair...
I saw a fountain down there in a tiny gap. I asked the head guide about it because I was curious about it, and he told me that the water in this fountain never stops, but it was not suitable for drinking. At least at the moment. Of course it was suitable in the past. Probably because of the changing spring water, it is not suitable for drinking as it used to be.
Although it looks like a normal fountain from this point of view, this is not the case at all in the gif you can see below. What do you think?
I wish I could add it here in the same quality I shot the video. I don't trust anything after seeing that even Youtube has been reduced to a killer...
Anyway...
After walking around a bit more inside and reading the information boards, we left the Basilica and went to the main city part, the Agora.
I don't like the look of this. Since I've learnt that security cameras are useless, this area seems to me to be nothing but ‘Come-and-get it’ opportunities. Although it would be nice to be able to walk among them, this is unfortunately the case.
Before showing you the door, I would like to share with you a photo of a small information board.
Of course, these boards contain information that I do not want to bore you with in the writing. I think it can be annoying to read in a state in which you have no extra interest.
It is necessary to be specifically interested in the fact that it was named after Marcus Aurelious' wife and that the Smyrnians built this door to show their support for Marcus, isn't it? 😉
If you can zoom in a little bit, you can easily see Young Faustina's face. I would also like you to think and ponder why she is called ‘Young Faustina’.
We took a few photos in front of this door as a group to celebrate a successful restoration.
Even though a sweet dog bombed our photo, I think it was a great memory.
But that doesn't mean we didn't take a more formal photo 😂
After this point, the order of sightseeing is messed up because we are running around the ancient city like mad calves again. Therefore, I will continue in the order of dates again. This order shows how you should not visit this ancient city.
I am back to the section I complained about above. Even if I don't remember that I wanted to examine it a little more closely, it's my own opinion.
There were some parts I marvelled at after close inspection. Like this mosaic section.
After this, I went to the Faustina Gate for the last time and took a few more photos, but I think only one of them is suitable to share.
Of course, we couldn't do without a group photo in this section.
Yes, I think that's Smyrna. It is actually very beautiful and quite enjoyable to walk around. Of course, it is enjoyable when you don't climb mountains and hills 😂 Although it is difficult to walk from time to time due to the stones, I don't think there is anything to pay extra attention to since the land is flat.
I deliberately did not want to give information about its history because, although it seems short, I think it is impossible to talk about only one subject because all the historical buildings around Izmir are based on deep-rooted nations. If you want, I can suggest sources on this subject later on or, even more differently, I can prepare a loooong writing on this subject only.
Frankly speaking, I miss talking to someone about history.
In short, Smyrna is a beautiful ancient city that is not difficult to visit, does not require extra security measures, is full of friendly street animals, and has a very rich history. I can say that the restoration works have been done in a good way. At least it does not resemble Sponge Bob Squarepants like Diyarbakır Castle. Or a pimapen window was not installed like another castle. the brains of whoever did this... WHATEVER.

Neyse. Durum bu olmasa bile bir hayâlimi gerçekleştirmiş oldum. Kötü değil, değil mi?
Smyrna Antik Kenti'ne giriş yapmadan önce karşılaştığımız minik bir yerden bahsetmek isterim. Girişi aslında olması gereken yerden mi yaptık emin değilim fakat oldukça güzel şeylerle karşılaştık.
Yukarıdaki fotoğraflarda gerekli bilgiler bulunuyor. İçeriye ilerlemeden önce önüme bir bilgilendirme tahtası daha çıktı.
Anlayacağınız üzere Bazilika'nın bodrum katıyla birlikte 2 katı var. Şimdi size üstten Bazilika'nın nasıl göründüğüne dair bir fotoğraf göstereceğim ve devamında da bodrum katının ne kadar büyüleyici olduğuna dair birkaç fotoğraf ekleyeceğim.
Gayet planlı ve sağlam görünüyor değil mi?
Aşağıdan ise böyle görünüyor. Büyüleci değil mi? Benim çok hoşuma gitti. Simetrik olmasa dahi yakın olan şeyler hoşuma gidiyor. Bu arada burası bayağı bir nemliydi. Saçlarımın hâlini düşünmek istemiyorum...
Aşağıda minik bir aradan bir çeşme gördüm. Merak ettiğim için baş rehbere de danıştım bu konuyu ve bu çeşmenin suyu hiç kesilmiyormuş fakat içmeye uygun değilmiş. En azından şu anda. Eskiden tabii ki de uygunmuş. Büyük ihtimalle değişen kaynak suyundan dolayı eskisi gibi içmeye uygun değil.
Bu açıdan normal bir çeşme gibi dursa da hemen aşağıda görebileceğiniz gifte durum hiç de böyle değil gibi. Siz ne dersiniz?
Keşke videoyu çektiğim kalitede buraya da ekleyebilsem. Youtube'un bile katile düşürdüğünü gördükten sonra hiçbir şeye güvenim kalmadı...

İçerde biraz daha dolanıp bilgi tahtalarını okuduktan sonra Bazilika'dan çıkıp asıl kent kısmına, Agora'ya gittik.
Bu görüntü çok hoşuma gitmedi. Güvenlik kameralarının bir işe yaramadığını öğrendiğimden beri bu kısım bana "Gel-Al" fırsatlarından başka bir şey gibi görünmüyor açıkçası. Aralarında gezebilmek her ne kadar güzel olsa da durum ne yazık ki böyle.
Kapıyı size göstermeden önce yine minik bir bilgilendirme tahtasının fotoğrafını sizlerle paylaşmak isterim.
Sizi yazıda sıkmak istemediğim bilgiler içeriyor elbette bu tahtalar. Bence ekstra ilginizin olmadığı bir durumda okumak can sıkıcı olabilir.
Marcus Aurelious'un eşinden ismini aldığını ve Smyrnalıların, Marcus'a desteklerini göstermek için bu kapıyı yaptıklarına spesifik bir şekilde ilgi duymak gerekiyor değil mi? 😉
Fotoğrafı biraz yakınlaştırabilirseniz Genç Faustina'nın yüzünü rahatlıkla görebilirsiniz. Bir de neden "Genç Faustina" olarak anıldığını da düşünmenizi, kafa yormanızı isterim.
Başarılı sayılabilecek bir restorasyonu kutlamak için grupça bu kapının önünde birkaç fotoğraf çektirdik.
Tatlı bir köpek fotoğrafımızı bombalasa da bence harika bir anı olarak kaldı.
Ama bu daha resmi olan bir fotoğraf çekmediğimiz anlamına gelmiyor tabii ki 😂
Bu noktadan sonra antik kentte yine deli danalar gibi koşuşturduğumuzdan dolayı gezi sırası karışmış durumda. Bu yüzden yine tarihleme sırasına göre devam edeceğim. Bu sıra ise bu antik kenti nasıl ziyaret etmemeniz gerektiğini gösteriyor.
Yukarıda durumundan şikâyet ettiğim bölüme tekrar dönmüşüm. Biraz daha yakından incelemek istediğimi hatırlamasam bile kendi düşünce yapım sonuçta.
Bazı kısımları yakından inceledikten sonra hayret ettiklerim de oldu. Aynı bu mozaik bölümü gibi.
Buradan sonra ise son kez Faustina Kapısı'nın tarafına geçip birkaç fotoğraf daha çekmişim fakat içlerinden sadece birisini paylaşmaya uygun olduğunu düşünüyorum.
Tabii bu kısımda da bir grup fotoğrafı almasaydık olmazdı.
Evet, sanırım Smyrna bu kadar. Aslında çok güzel, gezmesi de oldukça zevkli. Dağ tepe çıkmayınca zevkli oluyor tabii 😂 Yürümek taşlardan dolayı zaman zaman zorlaşmış olsa da arazi dümdüz olduğundan ekstra dikkat edilmesi gereken bir şey olduğunu düşünmüyorum.
Tarihi hakkında kasıtlı olarak bilgi vermek istemedim çünkü kısa gibi görünse de İzmir çevresindeki tarihi yapıların hepsi köklü milletlere dayandığından dolayı sadece tek bir konudan bahsetmek bence imkânsız. İsterseniz eğer sonradan bu konu ile ilgili kaynak önerisinde bulunabilir ya da daha da farklı bir şekilde sadece bunu konu edinen uzuuuunnn bir yazı hazırlayabilirim.
Açıkçası birileri ile tarih hakkında konuşmayı da özledim.
Kısacası, Smyrna gezmesi zor olmayan, ekstra güvenlik önlemleri gerektirmeyen, arkadaş canlısı sokak hayvanları ile dolu, tarihi oldukça zengin güzel bir antik kent. Restorasyon çalışmalarının ise iyi bir şekilde yapıldığını söyleyebilirim. En azından Diyarbakır Kalesi gibi Sünger Bob Karepantalon'a benzetilmemiş. Ya da başka bir kale gibi pimapen pencere takılmamış. Ben bunu yapanın beynini.. NEYSE.
