Talking to my colleagues over the weekend we were on the subject of shopping malls which one was the best for restaurants, food courts and reasonable priced shopping not something men really talk about but, i was needing update my work shirts and trousers to a bit more modern style so one of my mates suggested Terminal 21 he said this Terminal 21 has all you need duty free stores that purchases whatever and then claim your taxes back when leaving the country this sounded a great deal indeed so of we when to this Terminal 21 today and i honestly thought we were going to an airport terminal because when we arrived at this Terminal 21 if you didn't know any different you would honestly think this was a airport a big plane sitting outside on the tarmac at this i really thought we were at an airport.
No kidding you, me not been very familiar with Pattaya City, i really thought they had taken me to the airport because, i do know that Pattaya City has a international airport and this Terminal 21 had me fooled looking at it from the outside you wouldn't think any different at first glance.
Looking at this set-up from the outside someone not knowing the area would definitely think at first sight that, this is a airport giving the size of the area, displaying gate numbers around the building, passenger loading walkways and planes sitting out the front like i said it had me fooled for a few seconds.
In actual fact this modern multi-story shopping mall is located on a large plaza and themed after airports and international flights. The airport theme starts in the plaza itself where there is a replica of a full size airplane taking off. The theme continues with the entrances which are termed as gates and inside where there are replica luggage trolleys.
Each floor is themed after a particular city and each escalator is like an international flight where you depart from one city and arrive at another. Apart from the decor, you also have replicas of prominent tourist attractions in the city or the country for example, an Eiffel Tower in Paris and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.
The mall is like a microcosm of the whole world and you can view replicas of many prominent tourist attractions in the mall.
Terminal 21 is a mall known more for it's visual delights than it's many shops. That being said, one can spend half a day admiring the stunning architecture and wandering along the twisted pathways to them many interesting small shops.
Great place to visit, very well constructed. Interesting, quirky shops, some of them have merchandise not seen before in other shopping malls and reasonable prices. Some many restaurants to choose from. The food court is excellent value, had the best Pad Thai ever there.
There are about 250 retailers shops lined on every level and each representing a different destination how amazing is that it would take you one day to do each level and by then you would have journeyed through Tokyo, Italy, San Francisco, Hollywood, Paris and London. Apologize if i am showing to many pictures of the Eiffel Tower but i was just astound the way they built this perfectly and the way it was lighting up the mall with all it's stunning colors.
And coming back to the main purpose of the building it is a shopping mall and not a airport. So there are many stores selling luxury goods, a supermarket, food court and a cinema. So you can travel around the world, watch movies, do your shopping and have your dinner in the same day without leaving the air-conditioned luxury of the mall.
