Today I wish to share with you the memory of a very pleasant trip I made to Coche Island which, together with Cubagua and Margarita, is part of the trilogy of islands in the State of Nueva Esparta, in Venezuela.
Coche is a small island with arid, desert soil, whose population -grouped in small hamlets- is mainly made up of fishermen who live from fishing and from raising goats and goats.
It is very attractive for those tourists who seek tranquility and rest, places that are isolated or less populated from the city's hustle and bustle. It is also very popular with water sports lovers such as windsurfing and kiteboarding. Part of its charm is that this island does not have the tourist services that we find in other places, that's why the hotels offer stays with the best comforts, as well as the enjoyment of the best local and international gastronomy.

Hoy deseo compartir con ustedes el recuerdo de un gratísimo viaje que realicé a la isla de Coche que, junto con Cubagua y Margarita, es parte de la trilogía de islas del Estado Nueva Esparta, en Venezuela.
Coche es una pequeña isla de suelo árido, desértico, cuya población –agrupada en pequeños caseríos– está constituida fundamentalmente por pescadores que viven de la pesca y de la crianza de ganado caprino, como cabras y chivos.
Es muy atractiva para aquellos turistas que buscan tranquilidad y descanso, sitios apartados o menos poblados del ajetreo citadino. También es muy frecuentada por los amantes de los deportes acuáticos como el windsurf y kiteboard. Parte de su encanto es que esta isla no cuenta con los servicios turísticos que encontramos en otros lugares, por eso los hoteles ofrecen estadía con las mejores comodidades, así como el disfrute de la mejor gastronomía local e internacional.
From the hotel Coche Paradise you can see these magnificent views of blue waters from the pool that extend to the horizon full of sea water. A space like this is to enjoy the landscape, a pleasant bath in the salty waters of the Caribbean Sea, a good reading, or simply to sunbathe or have "a shrimp", as we Venezuelans say, to refer to the siestas.
Desde el hotel Coche Paradise pueden verse estas magníficas vistas de aguas azules de la piscina que se prolongan hacia el horizonte pleno de aguas marinas. Un espacio como este es para disfrutar del paisaje, un agradable baño en las saladas aguas del mar Caribe, una buena lectura, o simplemente tomar el sol o echar “un camarón”, como decimos los venezolanos, para referirnos a las siestas.
This is a construction called "churuata", of course, in this case, modernized, which imitates those of the ancient Venezuelan Indians, which serves for various activities, such as presentation of musical groups or theater, in addition to being the space reserved as a dining room.

The hotel is so well designed that it offered us, within its own facilities, spaces so pleasant, like this one, which led us to be in total tranquility because, in addition, we went during the low season and we could enjoy without crowds those spaces as the swimming pools, the dining room, the gym, the bar, but especially the beach which is reached by following that little road.
El hotel está tan bien diseñado que nos ofrecía, dentro de sus propias instalaciones, espacios tan agradables, como este, que nos llevaba a estar en la tranquilidad total porque, además, fuimos en época de temporada baja y pudimos disfrutar sin aglomeraciones esos espacios como las piscinas, el comedor, el gimnasio, el bar, pero sobre todo la playa a las que se llega siguiendo ese caminito…
This whale skeleton became one of the biggest entertainments of the girl who accompanied us because she asked any kind of questions about the life of the animal. Sometimes we would build funny stories for her and other times we would ask her to tell us her story about the whale. And that was really fun.
Esta osamenta de ballena se convirtió en uno de los mayores entretenimientos de la niña que nos acompañó pues hacía cualquier tipo de preguntas sobre la vida del animal. A veces le construíamos entretenidas historias y otras le pedíamos que nos contara ella su historia sobre la ballena. Y eso era sumamente divertido.
Although ground transportation is scarce, we managed to make a tour of the island in rustic vans. Taking advantage of that land tour, we visited the main salt flats of the island where the different stages of salt formation can be appreciated. As you can see in the photograph, it is a wonderful natural spectacle.
Aunque el transporte terrestre es escaso, logramos realizar un paseo alrededor de la isla en rústicas camionetas. Aprovechando ese paseo terrestre, conocimos la salina principal de la isla donde se pueden apreciar las diferentes etapas de la formación de la sal. Como se puede observar en la fotografía, es un espectáculo natural maravilloso.
We were also able to visit Playa del Amor, where you can appreciate the transparency of the blue water and the clay color of the soil of almost the entire island.
También así fue como pudimos visitar Playa del Amor, en la que pueden ver la transparencia del agua azul y el color arcilloso del suelo de casi toda la isla.
In that walk by the island of Coche it is easy to see in many open spaces the cemeteries of marine shells, mainly of the calls "pepitonas" or "pata'ecabra" and mussels, among other flavorful species. This cemetery has been formed for years by the same inhabitants who live from the work of shucking these shells to trade them with hotels, restaurants on other islands, or for domestic consumption. The mountains of shells are usually a fun place for children because of the sound produced when walking on them.
En ese paseo por la isla de Coche es fácil ver en muchos descampados los cementerios de conchas marinas, principalmente de las llamadas “pepitonas” o “pata’ecabra” y mejillones, entre otras sabrosas especies. Este cementerio lo han formado, durante años, los mismos pobladores que viven del trabajo de desbullar estas conchas para comerciarlas con hoteles, restaurantes de otras islas, o para el consumo interno. Las montañas de conchas suelen ser para los niños un sitio de diversión por el sonido que se produce al caminar sobre ellas.
In this tour we were able to enjoy lunch in a place outside the hotel, where you can get many sea products such as fish and seafood. We ate delicious local food!
En este paseo pudimos aprovechar el almuerzo en un local fuera del hotel, donde se consigue muchos productos del mar como pescados y mariscos. ¡Comimos deliciosa comida autóctona!
The best part of this whole trip, besides enjoying the sea water, were the sunsets that we enjoyed late in the afternoon. Each one offered us its beauty in a different way, as you can see below.
Lo mejor de todo este viaje, además de disfrutar al agua del mar, fueron los crepúsculos que tarde tras tarde disfrutamos a montón. Cada uno nos ofreció su belleza de manera distinta, como podrán ver a continuación.
Aren't they unforgettable? They remain engraved in the memory and in the images forever.
¿Verdad que son inolvidables? Quedan grabados en la memoria y en las imágenes para siempre.
