Let me take you on a little trip to Dublin Zoo. My wife and I have always enjoyed zoos and have visited many all around the world and Dublin Zoo rivals the best of them. Our three boys love the zoo too and when we lived closer to Dublin, will all had annual passes, so we would go once per month or there abouts.
Then in May 2021 we moved back West where I am from and as a result one and half years passed since we have been to the zoo. Last weekend we fixed that and we were blessed with blue skies and a very quite zoo, so we ended up having one of our best ever zoo visits.
For whatever reason almost all the animals that we really like visiting were in prime locations to view and get close to.
Come on let's have a little look.
Turtle
My eldest son's favourite animal or mammal or whatever you want to call it is a turtle, so he was thrilled to see this little guy again.
Giraffes
Again the giraffes were in an ideal spot within the African Plains section of the zoo for us to get right up close and personal. Here are some of the photos I took.
Tigers
The tigers are always a massive hit with us all and we were treated to around five walk bys at the window which was really enjoyable. The kids really enjoyed it.
Gorillas
The Gorillas are always good craic and they certainly didn't disappoint on this occasion. One little guy in particular put on a show, by dancing around in circles, tapping the glass and just generally acting rhe maggot!
Orangutans
We were lucky enough to experience these guys in the wild when visiting Malaysia some years back so they always have a soft spot in amy zoo visits.
Penguins
My youngest son adores the Penguins, so he got great mileage out of these little guys.
Rhinos
Who doesn't love Rhinos? Nobody. So what about baby Rhinos or Rhino calves? Even better, eh. Well we were lucky enough to see this little man and his Mammy on our visit and I'll share some photos below.
Okapi
Have you ever heard of an Okapi? Didn't think so, it like a made up animal, like hybrid animal that some kid drew, but no these guys exist. They are a bit mad looking
Elephants
Last but not least we have the elephants.
Wild Lights
Every year for the past ten or so Dublin Zoo do a night time exhibition called Wild Lights where they set up really cool light displays all over the Zoo grounds in December and January. It's a big hit with the patrons and we've attended ourselves three or four times.
We didn't make it this year, but even during the day, it's pretty impressive. Here's some of the displays this year. I think you'll agree they're pretty cool.
