Poem: Amigurumi

armsandlegs

Amigurumi

The hook goes through to grab the yarn
Pull it back, then wrap around
Ease it gently through the loops
And count aloud to mark your steps

A calm routine of steady progress
A LEGO set, but made of fibers
Behold a figure emerge from nothing
With each stitch the pattern summons

The hook can snag, or poke through yarn
The wrong strand can get pulled along
Don’t count ahead and lose your place
Or pull too hard to fix mistakes

A stitch too tight, a technique too tricky
Traps await if you move too quickly
And underneath, ambitious plans
That rely on skills you don’t yet have

A calming practice if you stay patient
Present moment, not the future
Build the thing and build your spirit
Though on this path you sometimes stumble

If you'd like to see the crochet project I was working on that inspired this poem, I blogged about it here.
