Asteroids@Home Has Been Greylisted

Summary

Asteroids@Home has been put on the greylist due to server issues. They were not included in the last superblock

What's Greylisting

Greylisting is essentially a temporary removal from the whitelist, but that doesn't require a poll to happen. If a project fixes whatever issue caused it to be greylisted, it will be added back to the whitelist (once the metrics & requirements are met) without a poll as well.

What Triggers Greylisting

For Asteriods@Home, the Work Availability Score is what has triggered greylisting. With the server not working, zero credit days will also be an issue soon

In general there are two main criteria that usually cause a project to be greylisted:

  • Project Work Availability Score (WAS) is red
    • Means that there are a low amount of credit recently given out compared to its past
    • Means as that the seven day median new credit / the 40 day median credit is less than 0.1
      • For Asteriods@Home this ratio currently¹ is ~0.0726

  • Number of Zero Credit Days (ZCD) is greater than 7 out of the last 20 days
    • Means that there are more than 7 days out of the last 20 that the project didn’t give out credits
    • For Asteriods@Home this is currently¹ 6 out of the last 20 days

What's Causing Asteroids@Home's Server Issues?

The project is temporarily down.

I am very sorry to inform you that the project is temporarily down. The database system was still running on a temporary hardware solution which failed a few days ago and the hardware is dead. We still don't have the planned new server and due to holidays and other circumstances we can't hurry anything up. New server should be available on September or October so project will probably be down until then. We don't have any sufficient hardware for other temporary solution and I also think that the best solution is to get the project online when it is finally on a new stable hardware because I know that the project outages every few weeks are very frustrating.

I will post here later any new information when available.
