Today's Prompt: Sensibility

Dorothy placed the teacup to her lips, sipping delicately at the herbal tea that was prepared so excellently for her by ‘the help’. Peering out onto her garden, she soaked in the vast number of plants and flowers that had been curated for her by her late husband.

“Mum, are you planning on coming to my art expo?” Laura placed her cup down on the saucer in front of her, looking earnestly at her mother.

“I don’t see why not. Although I do wish you’d give up this whole ‘art’ endeavour. The people that you’ve taken to associating with don’t mesh well with the family’s sensibilities.” Dorothy continued looking out onto the green space before her, refusing to turn and meet her daughter’s gaze.

“Gee, thanks.” Laura sighed; her mood diminished below what even she had anticipated coming into this conversation.

“Don’t look so disheartened, my dear,” Dorothy glanced sideways, catching a glimpse of her dejected face, “at least I agreed to come. I could be like your brother and refuse to even show up.”
