Their long fingers wrapped in leather help them to swim while they are also able to walk on land.
American Coot pump its head back and forth as this helps it to move and swim over the water. It searches for aquatic plants by diving in meadows and along beaches.
American coots are located in large freshwater ponds, lakes, and slow-moving rivers at low levels.
American Coot feeds on what is available to it and is mainly on plant substance and also prefers insects, fish, tadpoles, snails and worms and it feeds on eggs of other birds.
